    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Working at Intel for the last year has been brilliant. My team were incredibly kind and welcoming and I settled in straight away. The intern community was great fun and I have met lifelong friends. The experience you gain is invaluable and gets you familiar with the "big business mentality". Having access to internal information such as revenue figures, investments and new product timelines is a great privilege as an intern and I'm sure I wouldn't have enjoyed the year as much at other companies

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Intel promotes recognizing good work so you always feel yourself, and your work is valued by others. Many colleagues and managers complimented my work through the year and it really made be feel like a full time member of the team. Colleagues spoke highly of me in meetings and recommended my work to others across different teams globally Only on one occasion did I feel my work wasn't valued and the issue was soon sorted.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Over the year I had 3 different managers due to a change in management of my team and then because I moved teams halfway through my internship. All my managers were incredibly friendly and supportive of my work. They always ensured I was okay before even talking about work. I had great connections with my managers and always felt I could tell them anything, even if it something negative. I also was given a supervisor when I joined which also helped

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On the average day I was fairly busy between 9-5 which was great as the days went fairly quickly. Obviously there was days where I was quieter, especially when I was between projects and moving between two teams. However there were also days that were absolutely hectic due to approaching deadlines or during revenue close at the end of the quarter. This might have meant working extra hours but my managers would always tell me to take the time back

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I could not believe how much responsibility you are given during an internship with Intel. I authorized over one million dollars a week on average for marketing activities. I reported on billions of dollars a year of EMEA revenue which I could not believe when I first heard I would be doing this. I was involved in a global project which was ranked as the most important project in finance through 2020 by the CFO

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have learnt so many new skills this year that will help me greatly going forward in my career. One of these is Microsoft Power Bi is a tool used to create interactive dashboards. I developed my team working skills and how to communicate within a big business. I gave many presentations as well throughout the year which was a weakness before I joined Intel but I would now class this as a strength of mine

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office is almost always jovial and light-hearted. Lots of fun can be had whether that is in the canteen, at the desks or in the games room. Everyone goes for mini breaks through the day between meetings and makes use of the tables tennis table, darts board and other games around the office. When sat at my desk, loads of people would come by and say "hi" throughout the day. Its a fun office to work in

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organised. We had an open day a few months before starting to meet everyone and find people to live with. We had a five week handover period to learn everything the previous interns did in their roles before being left by ourselves. My manager has always checked in with me to ensure I am getting what I wanted out of the placement. Couldn't fault the entire internship process at Intel

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company allowed me to go on all training days the team had and most of these were offsite. I completed a few courses for data science and data analytics throughout the year and could have completed some more if I had had the time. The company allowed me to have some study days where I could complete university work. There was only one time I didn't go on a training trip however only a few team members went for budget reasons

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • This heavily depends on the department you are working in. The business management group have a high turnaround of staff and therefore a job is much more likely. I work in Finance and they havent hired an intern back for 4 years. This is mainly due to the automation of systems in the industry and therefore less people are needed. That being said, I have impressed the accounting team and it seems like I will receive an offer from them. The company will not let good talent go to waste

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a great community of interns and a few new graduates. We did weekly socials such as bowling, clubs, pub quizzes and events. We had a weekend away in a mansion which was a great laugh and were planning another trip however COVID-19 put an end to this idea. Talking to previous interns, the social life with interns has always been great and therefore I am sure it will not go away anytime soon

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living costs are not too bad in Swindon however I would say slightly above average. My rent was £400 a month and bills was about £50 for a four bedroom house which I shared with other Intel interns. Prices for drinks in Swindon can be a little bit pricey however there are always student deals. Since we were earning a decent intern wage, we did not find the prices in Swindon to be an issue

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Swindon is not amazing due to not having any universities nearby. There are two nightclubs in Swindon. One is a bit pricey but the other has student nights every Thursday which we attended a lot of weeks. The pub scene is a lot better and bar crawls were a good laugh. The nightlife will be as good as you made it, and even though the nightclubs are not the best, we still have a good time

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are lots of activities offered especially volunteering whether than in schools, hospitals or anywhere in the local community. Intel also offer evening events with their social club including Swindon beer festival, theater shows, concerts and parties. The interns all got together weekly to host events such as bowling, cinema, bar crawls, nights out and weekend ends away. There is always something going on around Intel whether thats inside or outside of the office hours
