    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Intel have a fantastic internship programme which has allowed me to develop my knowledge and business acumen. I have also had the opportunity of working on multiple projects which have made this a fantastic place to work.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone at Intel is treated equally and by having this type of environment really helped me to settle into the job and give my all. My colleagues identified that I was a hard worker and this helped to create a better bond and show I was really part of the team and valued.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had both a supervisor who was there to give me the necessary training and support the work I was doing as well as a manager who would help support my development.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had a very balanced workload and when it got to a point where my workload was either getting to much or to little I could always work with my manager to correct this.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Intel gives Interns as much responsibility as they can handle. You have the choice of learning at your own pace whether this is taking things slow and completing one project at a time or working on multiple world wide projects. It is your decision as they understand this is just as much of a learning process for you as it is a job.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have honestly learnt more working at intel than I have done at Univeristy. I believe the skills and knowledge learnt on placement will benefit my final year at Uni but it will definitely benefit me in my future career.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office is set out in sections so each department has there own section. This really helps to create a personal team atmosphere and allow you all to interact. The general atmosphere across the site was great. Intel has an open door policy where you can just walk up to people without having to schedule meetings etc. It is a very laid back approach and helps to create the great environment I work in.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I have not once found a single fault with the setup Intel had for placement students. They actually take a lot of time planning for the new interns and what they will be working on. Personally I have witnessed the assessment centres and planning for the new interns who will replace me and there is a lot of plans already in place. Also even if the new intern doesnt like the sound of the plans which have been made and would prefer to either work on something else or in a different department, Intel will make sure they try and place the intern where they feel happier and will work better.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Intel invests a lot in their interns because they like to hire them back as graduates. Intel also offers 100's of training courses which anyone including interns can sign up for. There are mandatory training sessions for all new employees but their are much more work related courses to help you devleop your understanding about intel and the specific projects you maybe working on.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Employment prospects are very good with Intel. They try to hire back as many Interns as they possibly can.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • As there is around 60 interns so the social aspect is great. Normally interns will go out at least once a week. We have also been on weekends away in the UK as well as abroad so we have great intern community.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Living costs are around £300pcm for rent plus bills. Socialising I would say can be anything from £10+ a week depending whether you go out for a few drinks or the whole night!

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nighlife is good just because there are so many interns who make the nights out good. Also depending on the night out the drinks can be really cheap.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are lots of sports which people across Intel get involved in which interns can also do very easily. Intel also has quarterly site days out/events which interns will be invited to. There is also the volunteering scheme which is a huge part of Intels Social Responsibility program which again interns can take part in and go out and help in the community.
