    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Challenging but exciting; I had a lot of flexibility to join projects thaty interested me and get involved with other teams.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Given a lot of responsibility and never treated like an intern - just another member of the team. Was able to attend events in London and Barcelona, had regular interaction with Vice Presidents, Global Directors and the executives of other companies.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Due to travel, guidance was sought more from co-workers than my manager. Always got the answers I needed though and everyone was happy to take the time out for me to explain things. Taught me more about being independent and logically working things out for myself.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Peaks and troughs, but generally kept very busy. If less so, there was always plenty to get involved in outside my team, which was very much encouraged. During a quiet period, I was able to split my time 50:50 between Telco Sales and Ops. Worked some late nights, but I was encouraged to take the time back when I could.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Some of my roles within projects included Project Manager, UK Coordinator, EMEA Point of Contact etc.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Hugely. I have developed a wide range of skills, such as communication/people skills, working independently, project management, business etiquette, team dynamics and events management.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really friendly. All cliches aside, we are a big family. ~1000 people at the Swindon site but everyone seems to know each other... The intern community is excellent too; there are 63 of us so it's like freshers with the difference that you're partying with people you actually know the names of.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My role was extremely ad hoc so there wasn't any real need for structure. However, my first 6 weeks at Intel were spent with the previous Telco intern, who showed me the ropes, introduced me to the right people and taught me the foundation of all I needed to know to succeed in my role.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • To a great extent. If I wanted to go on a training course - internal or external - the time was given and the course paid for. Intel understands that, as young professionals, we need all the help we can get in self-development and having an insight into the way business and management works, so they encourage us to actively seek out relevant training. All new starters are given around 6-8 hours worth of various trainings as mandatory. There is then a wide range of optional training to choose from.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • 4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Brilliant! Swindon is a dire town but the people make it so worth it!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • About the same as when at uni (Leeds).

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Great when you're with the right people... The company does a lot to provide random subsidised nights (such as Chinese New Year or the American Diner Night) which are usually a roaring success. Swindon is also close to many other towns/cities which provide better night life (Bristol, Reading, Bath, etc). The interns have a Sports and Social Committee who try to organise city crawls for us as regularly as possible.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Plenty of sports and volunteering activities; I got far more involved here than at uni. Intel takes around 80 people to the Corporate Games each year for a variety of sports. They encourage you to take free days off to volunteer, and match your charity donations.
