    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed working at JLR on this placement greatly. The team I was placed in was welcoming, and the project I was asked to work on was of a suitable difficulty, allowing me to both learn new skills and develop my existing skillset further. The work ramped up at a comfortable pace and I felt like a valued member of the team.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt my colleagues valued my placement quite well. I was invited to many out of hours events, and a good atmosphere surrounds the office, allowing discussion of both work related and non work related issues to take place in a comfortable environment where everyone felt both able to speak about issues they had, and where everyone was comfortably able to challenge others where needed.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisor was very helpful over the course of the internship, being a helpful guide in setting up short shadowing placements around the facility to help me become acquainted with the members of staff around. He also ensured I had plenty of work to do, and supported me when I needed help. I also felt he worked closely with me on a few projects, and having that kind of equality to a supervisor was nice.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My first week was plagued by IT issues, however even then i was kept busy with smaller tasks. Once my problems had been resolved, the workload on my main project picked up, and in conjunction with the side projects I worked on, the workload was quite consistent and ended up being very manageable, with support available when it was required.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was allowed freedom to design my main project to a degree, and on side projects I have, over this placement, become very able to assist in ensuring automated systems are both updated and running smoothly, being able to work effectively as a valuable part of a team when solving problems related to these systems.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills learned over the placement are skills I can foresee being very useful in future jobs. Learning how a more formal workplace environment works has been interesting and will be useful in future. The skills picked up throughout my project are good for any future data analysis work, and the methodologies employed have taught me how to better resolve problems.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was full of hard-working individuals, but everyone was friendly, and had plenty of out of work events planned throughout my time there. People were usually willing to chat when they were free, and the general atmosphere tended towards some playing around and chatting being acceptable, as long as the work was done correctly and to a high standard in the end.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My placement was well handled, as I had a short series of mini placements within the facility, and then my main project was well structured, having a week by week breakdown of the work I would be doing. I was able to integrate into the office environment quickly and settle into a regular schedule with ease.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A lot of training was offered, available to take voluntarily through online learning courses, and I feel the environment and the type of work I was involved with has helped me develop a greater skill set going forward. I was also able to ask any member of the office to explain something to me if I found it interesting, and they always happily sat and showed me the general scope and reasoning for/behind any process or task.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would be happy to return to work for this company, as I both enjoyed my short time here and understand the benefits afforded to full time employees. There is a great deal of potential to move up within the company, and my feedback from my supervisors and managers has been positive, so I would feel confident to come back.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene of the other placement students was alright. I am placed in a site which is slightly out of the way, so the majority of other placement students work on other sites. The few who do share a site with me have been good friends during my time here, and have been good for organizing some out of work activities.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Coventry was reasonably well priced for cost of living during Internship, and the cost of socializing is the same as most other places I have lived. The costs of accommodation, food and travel came out to a reasonable sum, which i could comfortably cover with my pay and have plenty left over for other activities.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Coventry's nightlife is somewhat poor, with the city having few places to go in the evening. I myself am not too partial to nightlife, so I lack the experience here to answer appropriately.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were plenty of opportunities to take part in events outside of work, organized by both co workers and other placement students. Some of the ones organized by work were either partially or fully cost covered, and the ones by other placement students were usually affordable in both time, place and cost.

    4/5
