    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed it. Getting involved in the markets everyday is a great thing to do because it means you are much more read up on everyday politics and events. Also it was great fun being in a trading environment, which I feel is a great place to work because it brings a good buzz.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues. The work I was doing on a daily and monthly basis was actually useful work that my other team members relied on. In terms of getting to know my team I feel like I didn't just get to know them professionally, but also on a social level.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was left a full handover document by my previous intern which was very useful in completing my daily and monthly task for the business. Any further guidance that I needed I could ask my managers as they were very friendly, but also the younger members of the team were very approachable to ask any questions I needed.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had daily and monthly tasks to get on with, which filled up a good chunk of time and then I was giving the task of 'research' to do in my spare time, so it wasn't like I was bored, but I definitely felt like I could have been busier. Having said that the working hours were very sociable, so I wouldn't want to be working that much more.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility, obviously as an unqualified intern I wasn't expected to be given loads of serious stuff to do, however my level of responsibilities surpassed my expectations. I was given actual business relevant tasks to do everyday, so much so that if I wasn't there then someone else would have to take up my tasks.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • In terms of transferable skills to my studies, the content of my placement and my studies is obviously completely different apart from the odd bit of learning towards corporate finance. However, the time management and general life skills I learnt will be very useful to bring back to university, where I think I will be able to use my time at uni far more effectively.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a very active atmosphere as you would expect in a market facing firm, which is always good fun to work in. The atmosphere was also friendly as well, I felt like I could go and speak to most people on my floor and they would be happy to have a conversation with me.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very well organised, I had a manual of everything I had to get on with for my time there. There was a full week of organised training and also throughout the placement there was events to network, but also lunch and learn type things where we could go and find out more about other business areas.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had a lot of personal training and development. There was a full week of training to start my placement, but also throughout the placement there was online courses to undertake to improve business skills. We also had two professional exams to do while we were here, in the IMC, which is very transferable to other jobs.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future job prospects are great at the organisation. There is opportunity to apply for the graduate scheme which is very good at the company, but also there is scope to move within the organisation to different departments if you deem the department you're in doesn't suit you. The grad scheme itself also offers wonderful for travel and further networking in the company.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a great social scene among the other interns, we had regular drinks on Thursday nights. Sometimes put up by the company, sometimes organised privately. There was also loads of stuff we organised for weekends as a group, which means we made great friends over the year here and definitely people I will continue socialising with after I leave.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Very expensive

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Good bar and pubbing scene, not much in terms of clubs, which is okay since we could go clubbing in other areas of London.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were loads of events to get involved in socially and professionally
