The Role
I have learnt a lot from this year, technical and non-technical and this year is going to contribute massively to my career development. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Intel. During my time I have met a lot of interesting people. All the things that I have worked on were very insightful.
The company takes good care of its employees and I felt extremely valued working here. Everyone here is helpful and were all keen to train me or support me with a topic I was struggling with. I have in turn received lots of recognition when I had succeeded and did a good job or when I helped other teams or departments.
The mix between business and technical aspects of my job was ideal even though this came with more time constraints and pressures, my team managed to support me throughout if I was struggling or required help. My supervisor managed to help me adapt to all of the changes that were happening at work.
On the daily basis, I was quite busy with different aspects of my job. Having to learn new programming languages to keep up with the tasks that got handed down to me from my manager and supervisors. I also helped out to run big events. Leading up to these times, my work schedule got extremely busy.
More than I anticipated, but I’ve really enjoyed it because there’s so much variety in my daily job. Whilst there can sometimes be time constraints or pressures, my team are a great support network, and Intel make sure staff aren’t overwhelmed. I learnt how to handle my independence as my manager was remote.
During my time at Intel, I have gathered enough knowledge to point me in a certain direction in terms of shaping my career and choosing modules for my final year at University. I believe that I have had experiences with multiple technologies and have a rough idea of what I like and dislike doing. I learned what I need to improve on and what I will need to work on in order to complete my third year.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is great. There are around 50 interns at my site, so there’s always someone to see and speak to, as well as friendly chatter with team mates. As departments sit together, there’s always someone around if you need help. There's loads of things going on, such at team meals and company events.
The application process was really nice compared to others. It consisted of an online application, telephone interview, and assessment day. In terms of the placement, my supervisor and manager made an effort to spend 1:1 time with me, which made me feel really valued and relaxed. They help me adapt really well with working life in a big company.
Most training was a required part of keeping up with the compliance guidelines and general working of the company. These were often assigned to me by my managers and supervisors through a website. They were also very keen on building our skills through different practices, to create a better understanding of our jobs.

The different employment options are not too bad. I have not been offered anything due to our department having changes therefore this hindered my chances of getting future employment. However this experience has helped me gather insight in what I would like to do in the future and what type of job I would like to do.
The Culture
The intern committee organised a lot of events onsite for charity, or volunteer to raise money or simply organise events as a Great Place to Work initiative. Due to there being a lot of interns, there was always something going on, definitely during the two 6 week handover periods, each week there was something new organised.
In my opinion the cost is quite substantial compared to the north.
The nightlife was not bad. I lived just outside of the working environment therefore I did not go out that often but when I did it was ok.
There were quite a few. This included getting involved with intern activities such as publishing committee, sports and social society and charity committee.
