    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It's been the best place I've ever worked at. I have been on so many trips, site visits and development days which give me a break from the standard office routine as well as a chance to explore different parts of the business. The flatmates I have been put with are amazing too and we socialise quite often. Especially given that we're in London. The work itself has been very challenging and joyful too.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues and the wider Centrica group have been amazing at getting me to settle in. We interact on a regular basis and I don't feel afraid to ask questions either. The team help me to get the information that I need and take time out to do so. They also invite me to all the team socials.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager has been fantastic. He called and emailed me weeks in advance to get a feel for what sort of work I wanted to pursue and organized a week long training course as well as many other activities. My manager also takes time to sit down with me and go through my work whenever I need it.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I generally keep myself busy as my manager had front loaded me with work. That way I can never sit there and get board as I understand the next task that needs doing. we also get involved in other events and challenges around the business which helps me develop and keeps me busy.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The work load I have is relevant to project on one of Centrica's site. This means that the work I do will feed into an actual project as long as I can give a business case for it to go ahead. The company has also given me full ownership of the project.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The work that I do will definitely help me back at uni as it all relates to how the work you do at uni fits into the working world. It will also help me with some systems modules that I am undertaking. Not much training is required for the job which is nice. But my manager put me on a week long training course to learn about control systems which was very beneficial.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The people in the office move about a lot depending on where they are needed as there are quite a few project managers. Someone is always there in my team however and the atmosphere is lively and sometimes a bit loud in the sense that we all crack a laugh .

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship organisers have been amazing in sorting things out in advance and keeping the interns updated on those things. The work was ready for me in advance too and all the help and guidance I need is easily available. The timing of events such as development days were also done in a way that there is a gap between them.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm has invested loads in training me up .The week long training and other training courses have all been done and paid for whilst at the company. In terms of investing in me, they have paid loads for me to be able to progress further and interact with the team easier.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The employment prospects seem very promising. The summer internship route is pretty much the only way to get back into the company. Centrica see the placement as a long interview and it is in there best interests to keep the best students that work hard during their placements as the engineers are needed.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social seen is amazing. I cant count how many events, restaurant meals, nights out etc that we have been on. The company pay for a lot of the company activities and meals. Especially if I am away. Otherwise we get together as interns too and go places a lot too.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It is around London, so don't expect it to be cheap to get around or to go buy things as it would be anywhere else. The biggest costs of living are picked up by the company as they provide free accommodation. The things around me aren't too bad in price still.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I am around London so when we go Central you can pretty much go to whatever type of club you like and its soo lit. The only issue is that it is a long trek and the uber is pretty expensive. Windsor is closer but the club isn't too great.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There have been opportunities to get involved in a lot of charity work. As part of the placement we have got do a charity challenge to raise money for carers uk. The company will also support me to go do activities if I needed or wanted to such as the development days.
