    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • My mentor was very good at giving me interesting assignments, which provided actual value to the company and she introduced me to many different people around the company. This made the insight week very enjoyable and I feel like I learned a lot from this experience, particularly from getting to talk to so many people across functions.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • One week is not very long, so it can naturally be very difficult to find appropriate assignments for such a short period. However, my mentor had prepared an exciting programme where I assisted her with her own work, which was ultimately used meaningfully. As such, I felt like a part of the team.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • 4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Some of the information which I gained about different property markets across Europe is likely to be very useful. Furthermore, the more extensive background information about the industry could be useful both in future essays and possibly for thesis purposes. The same information is also likely to be useful for future employment.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The mix of practical work with the mentor, field trips and talks was a nice structure as the days were rather different. The structure of having talks either at the end or beginning of a day worked well for minimal disruption of other work. The structure could have been a bit better in the sense that mentors did not always seem to know when our talks and trips were so that they could plan other work accordingly.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • 4/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was not much training, my work with my mentor mostly included looking up market research and similar information on google or more industry-specific databases. The talks we attended were educational as thay provided some insight into the different aspects of the business - also some, that would have otherwise been a bit unclear.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • 4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Although a week is not too long, I believe I got a quite good feeling about the good atmosphere at Savills and their company culture in general. People were extremely friendly and professional and very willing to share their experience and even take out half an hour for talking to me.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Upon completing the placement, I sent the receipts required to be reimbursed for expenses incurred (before the deadline for doing so) but I have not yet received a reply to my e-mail and have not yet received any reimbursement either two months after sending it, which is a bit disappointing.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, first of all there was a networking lunch where the insight week participants got to meet employees at different levels within the firm. Secondly, people were very good at taking time out of their busy schedules for a chat about their job, experience or any other questions I had about their work.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • There was very good opportunity to meet the other insight week students during as many of the planned activities were together with other insight students. There was also a networking luch where we got to meet employees across different company functions. The last day included a planned trip to the pub.

    3/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • 3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes, I would definitely reccomend the insight. The atmosphere at Savills was very good and it was also a good opportunity to meet both people in the industry, but also other students with similar interests. Furthermore, the mentorship setup worked very well and made the week very useful in terms of knowledge and experience gained.
