The Role
Really enjoyed the placement. An intense, yet hugely rewarding six weeks.
Each intern is assigned a Team Leader that acts as your mentor throughout the internship programme. They are incredibly helpful and spare so much of their time in assisting you with your job role. The rest of the company also make you feel part of the team and not simply the temporary intern.
As previously mentioned, my mentor gave me daily, if not hourly feedback on how I could improve/techniques etc. Other members of the team were always all too happy to help also which enabled me to settle into my job role very promptly.
Whilst working as a 'Move Consultant' there was a lot of competition between the interns over who was going to perform the best, something I was desperate to achieve. This meant that you were self motivated too work incredibly hard. However, Foxtons always broke up your day with other activities such as presentations and meetings with senior officials etc.
The internship started with two intensive weeks of training. After this, we were working for the company representing them when speaking to clients.
The work ethic Foxtons instill in you will be a valuable and admirable quality when working for any firm. It greatly improves your self confidence as you begin to see results from your hard work as the end of the internship nears.
The Company
The offices were fantastic fun!! Music was playing, bright red carpets, sweets and Red Bull everywhere. The atmosphere Foxtons have clearly worked hard to create has paid off. It makes it a thoroughly enjoyable and refreshing working environment.
It was incredibly well organised from the moment we arrived. This impressed me as it showed they had put a lot of effort into the time we would be spending there. We were given planners on what we would be doing at a particular time on a particular day. There was no element of the traditional 'tea-boy' work experience throughout the time I was there.
The time they sacrificed for the interns was very impressive. The meetings with senior officials, the working lunches/breakfasts they very regularly provided and the contact you had with your team leader were just some of the methods they used to invest time and effort in you.
Company Parties/Events
I was offered a full time job with the company once I had finished my studies, an offer I immediately accepted.
The Culture
I got on well with all my fellow interns despite it being a very varied group. We regularly met up socially and I am still in contact with many now.
Anywhere in London is bound to be expensive so I was well aware of this before the internship began. Luckily I have family in London so didn't have to pay rent.
The nightlife wasn't bustling in the area where the offices were, however going out in this respect during the working week isn't advisable anyway if you are hoping to impress.
