    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the insight, I learnt a lot about Deloitte as a company and the audit process. I also learnt how to develop professional skills such as time management, team-working and multi-tasking. I have learnt what it is like being a full-time employee at Deloitte, and it is a great way to see if it is a role and career that you will want to pursue.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued during my time at Deloitte, because we worked very closely in teams when we visited client sites. I was invited to ask questions about my work to anyone in the team, from associates to senior managers, and they were always more than happy to help. In addition, I was invited to team lunches in our break, they really made sure you were not left out. In addition, managers were more than happy to give you feedback to support your application to the graduate programme.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I received a lot of guidance and support, I worked in small teams of around 10 people and we all sat in the same room on one table, so it is easy to ask for help and assistance when you are unsure of a task. In addition, managers were more than happy to explain clearly what was required of you, and were willing to dedicate their time to help you on a one-to-one basis.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed with Deloitte will definitely help with my degree studies and working life after graduation. I currently am studying Accounting and Finance, and the vacation scheme has helped me apply what I learnt from my course to the working world. Aside from that, I have developed skills that I will definitely use during my career, such as teamwork and time management that I can demonstrate to other employers, and learnt that I want to go into the audit sector in the future.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was well structured, there were a couple of training days at the beginning, where you were introduced to the audit process and the computer programmes used. The following two weeks were based in different client sites, and you were completing different tasks for each of the teams you were working with. The insight does require you to be flexible in terms of location, as you may only be told where you are supposed to be going a day beforehand, but that is the nature of the role, and is definitely a skill that is useful for life.

  • The content of the day was thoroughly helpful in terms of helping me understand what it is like to have a full time role with Deloitte. The insight was a good representative of what it would be like to work in Deloitte in the Audit service line, as I worked with real client projects and also worked in teams of people of different positions, ranging from associates (first years) to partners.

  • The content of the day was very valuable in terms of deciding what to do in terms of my future career path. Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid and reimbursed adequately for expenses. If you drive, they were generous in terms of what they reimburse you per mileage. They also reimburse any other travel costs e.g. train. In addition, I had the opportunity to stay in a hotel for a couple of nights to visit a client site, and the expenses for that were paid for.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were many opportunities to meet other employees of the company. Audit requires travelling to client sites, and involves working in groups of people in different positions at Deloitte. Therefore, I met a lot of different people in my 3 week vacation scheme, and had plenty of opportunities to ask them questions, both in a work environment and in a more social setting outside of working hours.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would thoroughly recommend this insight to a friend. I learnt a lot about working in Deloitte, and what working in a Big Four company is like. I have also developed my confidence and learnt how to approach people in a professional environment. I have made a lot of new friends from the experience, and cannot wait to start a career in audit.
