    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I am enjoyed my placement a great deal. I found the placement challenging, fun and insightful. I was given a great deal of autonomy on my projects and really enjoyed the responsibility. I found that the company had a vetted interest in my experience and were very helpful in shaping what I wanted to do.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues. They were happy to give me tasks to complete alone, for me to give presentations, work without supervision, work alone with clients and they were always encouraging. I received regular feedback and always felt like I was supported by all members of the team.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a lot of support by my supervisor. He was keen to make sure I was happy, felt busy and was challenging myself. He was very approachable and was happy to hear my thoughts. The head of my capability was also available for support and guidance.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Because of the nature of consulting this really differed. Some days and weeks I was very busy, with lots to do. Some days I was not so busy because you are waiting for clients feedback or for decisions to be made. If it was ever quiet there was always something else to do and the company encourages you to use any free time to work on your personal development and o network.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a great deal of responsibility, although not without support. I was encouraged to take on tasks or areas that I could have ownership of.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills developed were broad and useful. The company cares highly about quality of work and so it was important to make sure everything you did was at a very high standard. I developed skills also in presentation creation and delivery, people skills, time management, Microsoft office and received training in coding. They are all transferrable skills that I could take into other jobs and into my studies.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was very professional. People were in smart clothing expect for Fridays. It was a friendly but serious atmosphere. You are encouraged to network with your colleagues but most people would take this out of the office into a coffee shop etc.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was very organised. I had been assigned to a project before I had arrived in the firm. We were invited to meet our fellow interns. We had training days and social events. We had welcome dinners and drinks and formal training.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm was very keen to invest in my development as if they think you are a good fit they would like you to come back to the firm at a later date so put a lot into your development. They were keen to make sure I felt I was adding value and was developing skills. They encourage you to meet people and expand your network.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a large social scene in Deloitte. You are invited to events for your placement, for your capability, for you department, for consulting as a whole and for your individual project and there are plenty of other events happening. There is a lot of socialising if you want there to be, it is not compulsory.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in London is incredibly high. Renting a house is expensive and it is likely that you will be more than a half an hour commute away. Socialising is also expensive. Transport is expensive but if you are a student you can get discount on this.

    1/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There were lots of nice bars and restaurants with a few good clubs in the area I worked. You would never be short on a good place to go for a drink.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes. The company has all different things you can get involved in. They host charity events and sports events also.
