    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • An all-round great experience. Provided a thorough overview of how the business operates as well as giving an impressive amount fo responsibility to a new employee. Was made to feel part of a team and that the work I was doing had real value. Also enjoyed working on a project with the other interns.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • During my time at Sky everyone I met made an effort to make me feel part of the team. I was able to regularly observe and even participate in meetings. Staff were also great at providing feedback and praise which made it feel like the work I was doing had value.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • During my time I had two managers, both of which were excellent at making themselves available and ensuring I had everything I needed to make the most of my time there. Beyond that all other staff were willing to make time to show me how things worked; which was great

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On the whole I felt productive most days. Sometimes staff may have other priorities which is understandable but they did their best to account for this by providing by providing work we were able to tap into when necessary. The project also meant we also had something to work on.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The work I was set felt like it had real value. I was able to provide feedback and analysis to senior staff and provide suggestions on how to improve certain features and services. Moreover the project I worked on with the other interns was a great way to look at a real issue Sky faces and try and offer a solution.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • From a technical point of view the placement was great for developing my Excel skills and providing an understanding of how a company like Sky operates. From a personal point of view the exposure and responsibility I was given allowed me to develop my confidence and presenting skills. All of this will be incredibly useful, whatever I go on to do.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The team I worked within were very effective and everyone seemed to get on well. Little things like a weekly quiz and baked goods were a great way of keeping everyone happy. I also found the weekly meeting where everyone laid out their plans for the week very useful as it allowed opportunities for collaboration to be explored.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Staff put a good amount of time into ensuring I was able to make the most of my time. The project with the other interns was well designed and the weekly overviews of different sectors was very useful. It was also great that staff would frequently ask if there was anything I'd like to see or do.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • First of all the time staff put into showing me how things worked or even more specific things like excel techniques was great. Moreover the opportunity to fly down to London and see the offices there was great and allowed a more complete picture of the business. It was also nice to spend time with other departments like staff from the all centre and operations.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The grad scheme seems very promising. Firstly the rotation scheme provides a great overview of things and the chance to work towards CIMA is also a fantastic opportunity. Speaking to other grads during my time there it was clear there is the opportunity to quickly attain a great level of responsibility .

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Enjoyed a fun trip to the fringe festival

  • Dunfermline seemed pretty cheap.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not a lot in Dunfermline but Edinburgh is pretty nearby

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • One staff night out during my time there. Seemed like people on the grad scheme in London socialised fairly frequently.
