    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was very enjoyable throughout. From the first day, I was given engaging tasks to complete and an interesting project choice. All of my colleagues went out of their way to ensure that I had an enjoyable experience, such as by organising lunches and socials. In addition, the campus at Sky was a fantastic place to work with many benefits, such as a wide variety of restaurants.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Straight from the first day, I felt extremely valued and as part of the team. My colleagues made extra efforts beyond those necessary to ensure that I integrated into the team. The important nature of the tasks I was given showed that I was valued, and as the internship went on I kept being given more tasks, some of which I presented back to the team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The levels of support and guidance given to me throughout the internship were very high. My line manager and the rest of my team were very good at making sure I was handling the internship well, and always being available to give useful answers to my questions. In addition, there were many other colleagues, such as HR, who gave me support and guidance throughout.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I found that I was always engaged with work throughout the day, whether it be tasks given to me in my team or as part of our group project. I was given the freedom to control the amount of work I had to complete by being able to ask for more easily when necessary or say that I did not have time to complete tasks to a good quality. Hence, very rarely were there times were there was too much or too little work to complete.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility throughout. A large part of the internship was a group project with other interns. While we got the appropriate guidance, we were left largely to ourselves to carry out the project and hence were responsible for it. In addition, I was responsible for a large amount of output in the tasks given to me by my teams.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I developed a wide range of skills while at Sky. These include financial knowledge which will significantly help me in financial parts of my degree. I also developed a lot of skills regarding software such as excel, and many soft skills, including my presentational ability and working in a team, all of which will help me in my degree and beyond.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • 3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As Sky have been running the internship for many years, it was extremely well organised. It was clear that a lot of thought and planning had been put into the structure of it by HR, my team and other colleagues. These include clear planning of the tasks I was given and our group project.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Right from the first day, we were given training courses in many areas, one of which was a 3 hour excel course. Aside from these specific courses, whenever I was set a task, it was always thoroughly explained to me with good training of how to go about it. In addition, whenever I had a query I could always ask a colleague.
