    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • A very enjoyable experience offering many insights into what it's like to work at Sky. People were incredibly welcoming and enthusiastic for us to learn as much as possible. Working hours were also very good, 9-5 most days with a few shorter and a few longer. Only negative would be more structure was needed.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team were very inviting and helped me out where they could. At the beginning of the internship I wasn't included in as much as I would have liked but this changed slowly and my team involved me where they could. I was often invited to lunches with them and they tried to get me in touch with anyone who would help. Only other negative is there's not a great deal you can be included in as an intern due to your minimal knowledge.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Initial guidance was substantial but more would have been useful like little things to do with sending emails, using Skype business etc. We were often left to our own devices which was nice in some aspects but the first few weeks we did feel little lost at times. More advice relating to things to do to fill time when meetings were on a low would have been helpful.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At the start of the internship my work load wasn't enough and I did have to find things to fill the time. However after the first couple of weeks I had an adequate amount of work to do without feeling stressed. I never once felt stressed by the workload which was nice.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • There is a limit to the responsibility given to interns due to your knowledge and many projects are very hush hush at Sky. However the main project all the interns were given was a large responsibility and we were left to our own devices to research and collaborate in order to produce a presentation.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I completed an excel course which will definitely come in handy. Most of the knowledge I received wouldn't help me in my degree but would definitely help me when entering a grad job, especially little things like Skype business. Also got a god understanding of how my degree works in the real world.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Sky is a very chilled out company, no one ever seemed stressed even when they had lots of work to do. Everyone was approachable at any time and general chat was always going. On days where bigger events were on people were generally more chatty and anyone is up for a coffee date anytime.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • On the whole it wasn't to bad but a few small things let the system down a bit. Contracts took a while to be released. The initial day was structured well with a welcome morning and tour but after this my team wasn't too sure what tasks to give me at the start.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • All my team members were happy to give me an insight into their general tasks and current projects. The excel course also helped enhance my skills. Lunches and meetings with current grads and older employees were also set up to give us a good overview of the firm.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I received a grad job from Sky and can't wait to start. It's such a positive environment, everyone can feel comfortable. The mass of different jobs and areas available means you can stay at Sky for years and never get bored. The subsidised food is also amazing!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All of the interns got on well from both the finance department and others. We regularly had lunch together and all went out for a final social after our main presentation. Generally a really positive relationship.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is never cheap. Sky isn't located in central London so accommodation can be a little cheaper as can transport if you are located closer to the firm but then travelling into the centre becomes more expensive. Socialising is also fairly expensive due to London prices.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As Sky isn't central London the night life isn't great. But it's only a 25 minute tube journey to central London where the night life is great. Some might think it's the best of both worlds living in a quiet area but also being close to the social side.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were a few socials put on while we were there which was a great way to meet people. There is a gym that have classes before, during and after work. There is also a cinema on site that play a film every day for free. However there are no sports clubs or anything related for activities after work.
