    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • A very enjoyable experience with both engaging work and fun socials. By rotating around different departments, I was able to gain an insight into the different areas within risk advisory and to appreciate the different types of work and clients they may work with. My only issue was that there was not enough time spent on each project. (given the length of the internship.)

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt extremely valued by my colleagues. Both in being able to complete tasks to reduce their workload and being able to provide and external opinion on ideas or products. Colleagues would treat you as an integral part of the team and express their gratitude by providing feedback to managers.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I would regularly meet with senior managers. Usually in person or on the odd occasion over a call. They would provide comments on work provided, highlighting good areas and areas for improvement. Relevant training documentation was provided whether this be technical skills or reading up on legislation or policies.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On a daily basis, I found that I was not always busy, being how limited I was without receiving extensive training. I felt like the experience was to speak with colleagues and gain an insight into what work I could be doing should I take a full time role and that the work was limited for this purpose. However, I found that by actively seeking work, there was always something available to do.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a large degree of responsibility, both for managing my workload and ensuring quality. While a sample of my work would be reviewed by senior management, I still felt personally responsible for it. On some occasions I was dealing with quite confidential information, sometimes at a senior level.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe that my time management was significantly developed which will help in allocating time to work and prioritisation during my studies and beyond. My communication skills were improved by speaking to a range of different individuals from different countries and communicating in a professional situation rather than fellow students at university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a positive and friendly atmosphere most of the time, even when deadlines needed to be met. You were able to regularly meet partners and directors. Staff were always more than happy to arrange a catch-up over coffee. The atmosphere made Deloitte seem like a good firm to work for.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well organised. From day one, we were told where we were, when and where in advance of our placement. Socials were arranged in advance and the itinerary was given. There were no issues within the organisation of the placements, however since it was prepared far in advance, sometimes (understandably) managers would potentially be on holiday for a week or so given that it was over the summer holidays.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm provided online training courses and documentation. Beyond that staff provided feedback allowing personal training and development. Where necessary, staff would personally provide guidance or send further documentation to aid in your tasks. Given the number of graduates within the firm, there was always someone who would understand what tasks you might want extra help with.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The fringe benefits and remunerations are great. Beyond that, both the culture and work the firm attracts makes Deloitte a great firm to work for. There is a degree of choice in choosing what sort of projects and clients you would like to work with. Progression is clear within the firm.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a great social scene, social activities were regularly arranged with fellow interns as well as by the firm. The firm arranged and paid for a range of socials.Colleagues would often invite interns when a team would go out, making you feel as part of the firm. Colleagues were more than happy for you to arrange time during work to catch-up with others.
