Programme Buyer Review

Throughout my placement I really enjoyed all the responsibility and being made to feel like I was part of the team and I was making a real impact on the programme. Being part of the programme purchasing team was the perfect opportunity I was looking for at JLR during my placement

Despite my inexperience in both the corporate and purchasing world I felt valued as part of my direct team and wider purchasing department! I felt every time I had a question there was someone I could ask who had experience there was also plenty of people to give advise on the best way to go about tasks that were required for the purchasing process

My line manager provided me with support and guidence throughout my year and made sure each task I was given I could ask for advise. He also provided me with aims and objectives throughout my time so I always had a short term week by week objective as well as objectives for my year

I was given a range of opportunities and responsibilities to manage daily which meant I had a balanced work load to manage and I was required to provide updates to my team and manager at regular weekly meetings which really made me develop skills in presenting and organisation as the primary information holder

Despite being on a placement I was given a great deal of responsibility in my team by the senior buyer who would often trust me with meeting minutes and end items that needed to be delivered only reporting to him when the weekly updates were required this gave me great pride in my work

The skills I have developed during my placement are already helping me in my final year at university I am must more time organised as well as being more effective with the time I put into my work! I have also developed my reaserching skills which will help me in my dissertation

The atmosphere in my team and office was great we got on very well and I was welcomed in with open arms. I felt very comfortable and have kept in touch with my team after finishing my year. They provided a lot of support for me when I had a personal situation during the year

The purchasing placement supervisor organised a lot of events throughout the year both socially and in a business environment. This meant I had the oppurtunity to meet friends that I have kept in touch with after my placement and will do into the future. Would reccomend the programme to anyone

Throughout the year I was offered a wide range of training and took part in training that has helped me beyond my placement. I was also able to take part in a wide variety of job and department specific online and classroom training which helped me develop a better understanding of the purchasing function

As part of the undergraduate scheme there is a level of transition to the graduate scheme with a positive end of year report. The graduate scheme is 2 years if that was not the route you would like to take a standard position can be applied for at the normal grades

Through the scheme organisation I was able to develop strong relationships with other undergraduates who I interacted with on a social scene. We took part in a variety of activities including paint balling this was possible due to the events organised at work for us to network with people in a similar position

I lived in leamington spa during my placement which was reasonably expenisve to socialise but was easily commutable to Birmingham and London for day trips etc. The cost of living was higher than I am used to being from Manchester originally however due to being on a paid placement I really enjoyed my time

As a social circle we made the most of the nightlife both in leamington spa and Coventry as well as the odd night in Birmingham. We had many great nights out in the local area would reccomend and we could make the most of student nights as part of the uni of Warwick and Coventry

In the local area there was plenty to get involved in. I play golf in my spare time and me and another undergraduate tried to play each week and there was a good number of places within 20 minutes of where we were based. Warwickshire has a lot to offer
