The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Kier. There was a good variety of work that was conducted and was also given the chance to see the different aspects of the business.
Each member of the team were great, at some points it was stressful but at no point were they rude.
At first I was situated at an office apposed to being on site where i really wanted to be. After I enquired about being on site this wasn't a problem and spent the remainder of my time there. The site mangers and Project managers were great for asking questions.
As the site was undergoing groundworks there wasn't that many trades on site. But I was still kept busy doing jobs where I could.
As I wasn't on site for very long I wasn't able to carry out certain important tasks. I was however allowed to organise other activities by myself.
This has definitely been the best part of the internship. Bringing back all of the information I have learnt back to Uni to help with my studies.
The Company
As the world cup was on whilst I was working the overall mood was brilliant, we all had a good balance between working and talking.
Initially I wasn't sure why I was situated in the office, but once that was sorted the organization wasn't a problem.
There was a welcome brochure I had to fill out when joining the company which went into detail about development and training. This was useful throughout the placement as I could reference my activities.
Company Parties/Events
Due tot he size of the company this is a been factor. Having guaranteed work is important and with Kier this seems certain.
The Culture
Unfortunately there weren't any other full time university students whilst i was on my placement.
I commuted from home everyday so didn't have to live away from home. I did have to pay for petrol without it getting covered over expenses which was quite costly.
N/A
Due to there not being any other people my age it was difficult to socialise. We did go to top golf for one event which is good fun.
