The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, I worked in a great team who made me feel very welcome and helped me gain invaluable work experience
I felt very valued by my colleagues. I was always given a lot of responsibility and managed my own projects.
My Manager was very supportive of my personal development and training whilst at Kier
I was generally quite busy, work came in peaks and troughs. I feel at times I could have been busier.
As mentioned, I managed some of my own projects and was given full responsibility for tasks as well as managing my own time and workload allowing me to get involved with various things across the business
My placement didn't directly relate to my degree although I feel I picked up valuable skills in programmes such as Excel and general work experience which will help me in the future
The Company
I got on really well with everyone, it was a nice environment to work in. Sometimes it was very quiet with people travelling / working out of the office a lot.
Very organised, everything was in place when I arrived and experienced no problems
I attended training courses such as Environmental Awareness and a Driver Awareness course, which gave me skills to use out of work and during site visits.

The Culture
Not so much between placement students, its a huge business so its difficult! We did carry out group projects with other placement students which allowed us to share experiences etc. Within my department there was a good social scene with team meals/ Christmas party etc.
I lived at home with my parents so didn't have much expense
I was living at home, and majority of my school friends live in the area so had a good night life
Yes there are lots of things to get involved with in the area outside of work. Particularly sports clubs, a gym there's lots of social clubs etc.
