    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, from both a professional and a social aspect. As an intern, I was given a significant amount of responsibility, equal to that of a full-time employee and this was extremely encouraging. I was given the ability to make key, important decisions with a significant business impact and having this responsibility made the job extremely enjoyable.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt extremely valued by my colleagues, both full timers and as interns. It was extremely un-common to be referred to as an intern and it was often unknown to others that I was not another member of full time staff. In meetings with other interns, they were always taken seriously.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support network provided was an 'On The Job coach' and my manager. My 'On The Job Coach' was extremely helpful, being my first point of contact for all issues, no matter how small. Any significant escalations would be dealt with by my manager and everyone was extremely helpful every time.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My work day varied massively depending on the Business conditions of the day/week/quarter. I was kept extremely busy some days with a lot of business-critical work needing to be carried out. However, Intel was very flexible with working hours and allowed me to take time back from these periods when it was quieter.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As an intern, I was given a significant amount of responsibility, equal to that of a full-time employee and this was extremely encouraging. I was given the ability to make key, important decisions with a significant business impact and having this responsibility made the job extremely enjoyable and has given me key transferable skills

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed many key, transferable skills such as data analysis, presentation and problem solving skills. Data analysis in particular is vital in studying towards my Economics degree as this has allowed me to critically evaluate data, interpret key trends/themes and provide useful insights as a result of the data shown

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • the general atmosphere was always positive and up-beat. There are many initiatives run by the staff, including a 'Great-place-to-work' committee. Events including a 'World Cup' tournament & BBQ, advent calender's & more throughout the year really showed how much the company cares about its people and makes for a great atmosphere.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The setting-up of the placement could have been executed better as a lot of the 'On-Boarding' training I felt was unnecessary and irrelevant. I also know that for other roles within my organisation, Interns were hired for one role and then found out after joining that this was no longer the case.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invests a lot of time and effort into its interns as this is the only hiring pool to which they re-hire their graduate employees. Regular trainings are scheduled throughout the year in a variety of skills including presentation skills, excel competency etc and they invest in your ability to improve these skills.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    International Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment with the company is extremely appealing as they only hire back from their Intern-hiring Pool. The year long placement acts as a year long interview and this gives you the bets possible chance to show the company why you want to work for them and vice-versa, with a strong number of graduates being hired every year

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a very strong social scene among both ordinary staff and the interns. I was part of the sports & social committee, which was responsible for organising social & sporting events for the interns throughout the year. This included nights out, an intern weekend away and football games against other members of staff.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Socialising was extremely cheap in the local area, with £2.90 getting you a double vodka & mixer on a standard night out during the working week. The local town also has offers & incentives crafted by Intel with local companies for food and other good to bring down the cost of socializing.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The old town, near the office has a multitude of pubs, bars and a karaoke bar all within a very short distance of each other and close to the office. The 'New town' has a couple of 'clubs' that aren't the newest or best clubs you'll ever go to but the atmosphere created by the interns makes it worth while

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Intel makes it a strong priority among its employees that they are active in the wider community. these include volunteering sessions for local wildlife parks through helping to restore/maintain these areas, helping out at local schools to facilitate technological advances within the local community and running workshops for anyone interested to learn more.
