The Role
I am really enjoying working at Webfusion in the HR team. I had a great handover when I started which helped me to hit the ground running. Once I had settled in I found many other opportunities to get involved in other projects, such as the Culture Task Force and supporting my manager in rolling out HR initiatives and workshops. Only half way through my placement and I already note how valuable the experience I am gaining is, from learning how to work with employees across the hierarchy, building professional relationships, supporting employees and the business and proactively working through change.
I feel very valued by my colleagues here, especially my managers whom never fail to praise for hard work. Being the main person responsible for the recruitment process I believe the hiring managers are pleased with the support I offer them and I have received positive feedback for my efforts from managers and candidates alike – it makes it all worth the while!
I really appreciated that my manager entrusted me with my own work and allowed a lot of autonomy. He is always willing to answer my questions and takes time to explain things to me. We set goals for each quarter which is great in giving structure, and key tasks to achieve and push yourself to attain 100% . This is supported by review meetings in which my progress can be discussed, it’s a great opportunity to show my manager what I have done, can do, and want to do, and really make the most of my time here.
I am fairly busy every day, but the tasks and my to do list always vary which is great. I also get to step away from my desk to meet with hiring managers, attend meetings and even take part in interviews. We also have flexible working hours allowing you to proactively manage your work load. Working in HR there are times when we have peaks in workload, however it is satisfying to work hard through the busy period, knowing I have the support from my team and can offer it back.
I believe I am given a lot of responsibility on my placement. From raising business cases to my manger and the CEO to request funding for recruitment, to creating and revitalising our job ad’s and even screening candidates where my judgement is respected and taken into account. As well as responsibility of tasks, I am also given the responsibility of being a representative for the company, speaking with perspective employees, liaising with agencies and creating a professional first impression to candidates from junior to senior roles.
The skills I am developing are already changing and supporting my development here at Webfusion, and I am more than confident the industry knowledge and experience will be beneficial within my final year of study. I not only learn from the responsibilities I am given, but from my colleagues too. Everyone at Webfusion is very friendly and I have found it easy to build good working relationships and friendships with my colleagues.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was relaxed, with a casual dress code and very friendly. The office is also open plan which is great in getting to know people outside of your department. There is always a birthday going on and we even had an afternoon celebration for Webfusion’s 14th Birthday which was great fun.
My placement is very well organised, I have clear responsibilities, and goals to achieve each quarter.
I believe the trust they give me to be involved in more than my job role is great for personal development. It makes me feel valued and respected, as well as that my work is appreciated. Ie. I am currently managing the recruitment for our new placement students for 2012 and delivered my own presentation on a new HR initiative to all line managers. Members of HR are also encouraged to take part in seminars once a Quarter.

Webfusion welcome back past placement students, and we currently have two great successes from previous placements still with us.
The Culture
I live with three other people from work which is great. There is a good social scene, and Stockley park is a lovely place to work with a pub and gym just over at the Arena. It is also close to London which is a plus.
Being in greater London the cost of living is more expensive than some places however I appreciate being close to central and in an area which is well linked up to visit other friends easily.
Uxbridge nightlife is great for dinner and bars but not so much for big clubs, it is also good as Brunel University is just around the corner. It is close enough for nights out in central though which compensates.
