    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Working in the Online Brand Activation Department at Sony Europe in Weybridge has been one of my greatest experiences. I feel like everyday I have the opportunity to learn and do something different. This is definitely something I recommend, having such good work experience is not something you want to miss!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • When I first started the job I was afraid I would not be treated seriously (the old bring me coffee stereotype) But in reality there was not a single moment where I felt like i'm treated like an intern. My managers gave me a lot of ownership, working on both big projects alongside them and also I had the opportunity to start my own.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My managers treated me very professionally but I can say that they were also my mentors. Every time I had to do something new they would explain and schedule brainstorming seasons in order to find out what is the best possible way to proceed with a particular project. They were friendly and always encouraged my to ask for support in case I need it.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This depends, after a few months of working in a big company such as Sony I realised that the days can vary a lot. There are some weeks where there is a lot going on and I have a lot of work to do and others which are more quite. Nonetheless there is always something to do :)

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I feel like I was given responsibility even from the first month of working. The first weeks I was in training and then my managers started to hand me some of their important projects. These projects being KPI's are very important for our department and the responsibility my managers gave me by working on these projects made me feel very valued!

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • When I first started I could never think I would learn so much. Throughout my placement year I felt like i grew more confident in my both my personal and professional skills everyday. Thanks to my team i grew my professional skills both by independently managing projects and also by using my knowledge to solve problems in a creative manner. Moreover, everyday I was challenged to deal with complex, unpredictable issues and making informed decision based on incomplete information. The work experience I gained aided me not only to increase my existing skills but also to develop and master new ones!

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was very friendly and upbeat. Our department constantly worked in a proactive manner in order to achieve the best possible outcomes.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well organised. I had 2 months notice of what each of my roles would be and where they would be. My training was all scheduled before I even started, and was completed within the first 2 months so that by month 3 I was taking the lead on projects and contributing to the business. The Early Careers team were always there if there were problems, or anything that I needed support with.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • In my role the company invested a lot in me. At the begging I had a lot of in depth training and after that i had weekly sessions with my line-managers in order to see what is needed to improve the projects i am working on.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • As fast as I heard that the grad scheme was reintroduced I got even more motivated to apply to be a full time employee.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There are regular weekly events amongst both interns and work departments. Every lunch we have the possibility to gather together at the canteen or if we want to have a bit of fun, we have the chance to play a few games of pool or even play on a ps4 in a room designed for relaxation.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived in Weybridge, the same town the company is based in. Luckily, the company provides free bus transportation so I only had to walk around 15 minutes to the bus station. Rent can be a bit expensive since Weybridge is not the cheapest town you can stay in but even so you can easily manage to get some good savings in 12 months

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Unfortunately, Weybridge being such a small town there weren't many places available to enjoy the night, but during the day or after hours there are plenty of parks and green areas, such as long walks around the river or forests.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Same as above, however, there were some activities such as fun day out organised by the company.
