    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship because I felt that I was valued by the company. I was given the opportunity to experience a number of different aspects of a day to day surveyor including attending site visits and meetings. However, importantly the work I was doing was all on current projects the company was undertaking which made me feel I was contributing to the company.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I did feel valued by my colleagues as they made me feel really welcome and entrusted me to carry out the work they assigned me.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Again, management were really welcoming helped by the open office policy at Savills. This meant I was often seated near or next to directors and associates meaning had the opportunity speak to them and gain a further insight into the day to day work of the team I was in.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Naturally some days were busier than others but generally I found the balance of work was quite good.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I assisted on current projects that the team I was in were working on and had deadlines for some of the aspects I was doing. This was a reasonable amount of responsibility since if I did not complete the work I was set I would have been slowing down the team.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Gaining work experience is vital to being able to become a chartered surveyor and this internship was invaluable in helping me to gain new knowledge and skills that will enhance any future graduate application.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was great. There was a good balance with an often light-hearted atmosphere yet ultimately everyone was still working hard.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I thought the organisation of the placement was on the whole good. There was good communication before the internship as I was aware of what teams I had been allocated and who my mentor was. This organisation continued during my time with Savills as I was always aware of what I would be doing that day or what was upcoming.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were regular summer scheme training opportunities such as lots of presentations including some by current graduates. At the start of the placement we had to set ourselves some goals which we had to work to during our placement. There was also regular review opportunities during the placement to check how we were getting on.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects with Savills would appeal greatly to me. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with this organisation, most importantly my colleagues made me feel welcome which has made my experience a positive one.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was not any fellow placement students whilst I was there. However, I did go out for drinks with some colleagues.

    2/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was reasonable, however, opting to live in the city centre minutes from work meant that my accommodation cost was higher than it could have been. In terms of socialising the cost was dependent on where you went with some independent bars being more expensive than chain pubs.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was pretty good. There was a lot of really nice bars, a street food scene and some decent clubs in the area.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I got involved in the netball league which allowed me to get to know other people I did not necessarily come across day to day in the office.

    4/5
