    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed it! People were all friendly (both staff and fellow interns), the program was well-arranged with the inspirational speakers series and product team sessions and valuation tutorials. Quite a few socials between interns and with seniors, which gave us the opportunity to meet others while having fun. Good culture

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Would often receive feedback after every piece of work, so was clear how I was contributing

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Given feedback after every piece of work, so could learn how to improve for next time. Encouraged to set personal and business goals, and reviewed them both in the middle and at the end of the internship. Assigned buddies so we could have somebody to talk to, ask questions, etc.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Depended on the day but generally manageable. Summer is known to be a quieter period

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Felt like I could have been given more responsibility, but also dependent on the number of juniors in the team/ whether the team has capacity/ how technical the nature of work is. But definitely received more responsibility as the internship progressed and I showed that I was able to complete work to a good standard

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Don't think the skills I've developed will necessarily assist me in my degree (but that's because my degree is unrelated to finance), but definitely do think that the powerpoint and excel skills will be easily transferable to anything that I do. Same goes for the personal skills I've developed over the course of 9 weeks.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Friendly culture and see a lot of collaboration going on. In my team specifically, people would like to have a good chat with each other but knew when to buckle down and work. Was easy to integrate into the team as everybody was welcoming. We had almost weekly Friday socials

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Overall very good, though we weren't told of details of our final case study assessment until 2 days prior. Received good business-specific training, had interesting talks and a good overview of the different aspects of the business, and even had the opportunity to volunteer at UBS' partner organization for half a day.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Lots of inspirational speakers who came in to talk to us (GB paralympian rower, GB Olympian rower), had the Head of Creativity of Google come in to talk to us about personal brand. Everybody was given training in their respective business areas, which I thought gave us a good foundation before we hit the desks

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Not entirely sure on this question - but have doctor on site and gym on site

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Friendly, easy to talk to

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Pretty standard City prices, though UBS has an in-house canteen which serves decent food

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Have a few bars around Broadgate circle (right outside the office), but also close to Shoreditch - which has many bars

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Didn't have much time to get involved in other activities, though there were many that I could have joined

    2/5
