    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I did really enjoy my internship and it has given me a very good insight into the Savills business and the differences between teams including what each of them do on a daily basis. Savills is a very sociable and friendly company to work for, I felt like I was welcomed.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt like I was valued by my colleagues and was always thanked for the work I did to help them. At times the tasks I was given were fairly basic and tedious but I expected this as an intern.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My mentor was always willing to help me and answer any questions I had. I would have liked to see more of my head of team but appreciated that he was always very busy.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was fairly busy each day but completed basic tasks I was given quite quickly. The first two weeks of the internship were busier as I was on a lot of site visits and more of the team were in the office. Towards the end of my internship I was asking if I could have more work a couple of times a day.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • It was great to see sections that I had written for valuation and viability reports actually being sent out to the client as part of the whole document. At times I did not find some of the tasks challenging and would have preferred to have more varied things to do.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The main skill I strengthened during my time at Savills was my networking skills and I am very grateful for this. I have now become aware of the many different departments and offerings Savills have and what life is like as a Surveyor, something which I was not previously aware of as I do not study Real Estate at university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere of the office was very fun and sociable. I worked in the Bristol office which sits around 60 employees across all of the departments on one floor which meant that asking other teams questions and collaborating was very easy. The drinks trolley that comes out every Friday was my highlight!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I was incredibly impressed with how the internship was set up by the Graduate HR team. We were given clear emails on certain things we had to do and in clear timeframes. Lots of information was given to us before we started including a calendar of events during the internship. The Graduate HR team were very helpful and encouraging and I was grateful that one of them travelled from London to Bristol to have my review meeting!

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The Graduate HR team set up a series of departmental overviews hosted my various fee earners in the business. The overviews were very helpful in understanding the different parts of the business and allowing me to think which departments I may like to research further. Other training was mainly done through tasks with my team.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are appealing and I was encouraged to apply to the Graduate Scheme. It was great to talk through the options face to face with a member of the Graduate HR team when she visited for my review. There are many options even for a non-cognate student like me!

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I worked in the Bristol office so there was only one other Summer Scheme student with me. Bristol had a great community feel and we were always encouraged to get involved in any out of office activities with the graduates and other members of the team. During my time at Savills I have been on many drinks socials, attended the summer sports day party and played softball twice!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • No complaints with the cost of living and socialising in Bristol.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife was really good - particularly with the Savills team at the Summer party!

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was definitely a lot of opportunities to get involved in outside of work. There have been around 2 socials a week to go to including softball and team drinks. Savills is a work hard, play hard organisation so I found the out of work activities great and was always encouraged to go to as many of them as I could.
