    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my summer internship at Atkins. Friendly colleagues, love the flexi hours. However at the time they were going through a mass redundancy so morale was a bit low.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • By most I felt valued and part of the team, but some did make me feel like a child out of place

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Was given the support and guidance by management when needed, but 2 managers were off at the same time for a week, who I needed support from.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied a lot. When there was a job on I would be given work, but when there was a lack of work then I wouldn't have anything to do. So was around 50/50

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • When there was a job on, I was the only electrical engineer (even though I'm a student) available, so I had to take on full responsibility for a job

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed with definitely help me in future when it comes to getting a job. They won't necessarily help with my degree studies though

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • When I first started my placement the atmosphere was good, but then due to redundancies the atmosphere did become quite dull.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My placement poorly set up at first, nothing was put into place, so for the first 2 weeks I couldn't do anything. But in terms of getting the placement that was set up well.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Atkins didn't personally invest in any training for me, but CPD's were put on to help my personal development and I learnt on the job.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love to work for Atkins, I have been offered a graduate scheme for the following year.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, at dinners I'd get invited out with other colleagues. There weren't any other summer placements though.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I didn't live or socialise in this area.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Didn't go out in the area at night so can't say.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not many but they do arrange to go out for drinks/meal every so often (once every 2 months).

    3/5
