    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the insight. I found that I grew to enjoy it to a greater extent as the weeks progressed. I found my first week to be quite hectic, but I have enjoyed it more since finding a more stable role within my team. It has given me first-hand experience of working life after university.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I have felt increasingly valued as a member of my team. I have been trusted with research that is used by all members. At first I was given quite easy jobs, but perhaps my team were trying to establish my exact skill level. I have found that this has improved massively, and my team has made me feel like a valued member.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • My support has been excellent. My Graduate mentor has been very open for me to ask as many questions as I wanted to. The HR team has also been very good at being welcoming. I have had only minimal contact with the directors within my team, although that is completely understandable. The course itself was very good at offering good tips.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I don't study a property oriented degree, so in that sense it hasn't helped much with my own degree. However, I have definitely advanced my office skills, and I feel that my general level of competency has risen. Certainly, my level of confidence has improved in the work that I have been doing. I have also become a lot quicker and more efficient in my research and use of office programmes, which I see as very transferable skills.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Personally, I feel that it was structured very well. I have managed to have real responsibility within my team and have not felt like I've needed baby-sitting. I have enjoyed the general structure of the summer scheme and I think that it has offered as decent an insight into Savills as is possible in just four weeks, for example with the departmental overviews.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • General atmosphere improved massively throughout. Not only between the interns, but also with the senior members in my team. I found the office space to be very friendly. The overall atmosphere was very relaxed, but also everyone was very keen to impress which was great.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have massively advanced my office skills and confidence in those skills. These skills I will be able to transfer into any other work experience that I do. Also, I have been included in lots of interesting meetings so I have gained a real insight into what working life is like at Savills. I feel that my knowledge of property overall has risen massively, and I don't feel worried anymore that I have not been studying a property-related degree at university.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It massively helped. However, I would say that my insight has been quite specific to my team. I feel that the other departmental overviews don't quite always offer the exact reality of working in that specific team. It is very interesting to hear about their headline clients and case-studies, but sometimes there hasn't been that much detail of what I might be doing as a graduate in that team.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Again, my understanding of the company culture is somewhat limited to my team's culture. That said, I have really enjoyed the way that my team operates together, it seems very fluid with everyone working with each other. I have enjoyed that Savills does not feel too corporate or hierarchical in its approach.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Very valuable. I have loved what I have been doing so now see that as a very attractive pathway. Also, having spoke to the other interns, I have learnt how the other teams operate. I have also been warned against a few teams, whose interns have suggested that their workload was pretty basic or uninteresting. I also found there was a big difference between some departmental overviews.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was very happy to be paid, and thought it was adequate for the work I was doing.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were lots of opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm. Most of these opportunities came from events organised by HR. I have found that I have not met that many other people through just my day to day work in my team, this has mainly because I have been kept very busy with work that is needed.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • I found the fee-earners lunch to be a very good experience of developing my skills of engaging with senior members of staff. However, the format is slightly uncomfortable in quite a small area, I think it would help if the fee-earners spread themselves out a bit more. I also really enjoyed the rounders. I think this would be better in the second week as the interns were much more relaxed around each other following it.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Not really. I'm not sure if one month is really sufficient to get properly involved with activities outside of work. However, I was very happy to see that there are lots of potential activities to get involved with should I be a graduate at Savills. all the charity events and sporting teams especially.

    3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend. If one wants to apply for the graduate scheme it seems to be a great opportunity to boost one's CV. Also, it is a great opportunity to see if you actually want to work in property. Also, you may get lucky, and find yourself in a team that you really enjoy and then you have a great narrative for wanting to pursue that particular pathway,
