    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I very much enjoyed working at Intel - especially due to the amazing work culture and environment you're surrounded in and the work ethic of the individuals in your team. Throughout my time at Intel I've stepped out of my comfort zone on multiple occasions, and been pushed by managers to be the best version of my self and always maximise my potential. This has allowed me to develop and learn new skills, especially excel and presentation skills.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I've always felt extremely valued by colleagues throughout my placement - Interns at Intel are genuinely a huge part of the company. The best part is no one is aware that you're an Intern unless you specifically say so yourself, so you're never treated any differently. All of my colleagues are very appreciative of the work and knowledge I provide which incentives you to go far and beyond what is expected of you.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • During my 13 month placement I've had 3 different managers due to the change of dynamics in the business. All of these managers had different leadership and management styles, however, all 3 of them were very invested in you. I've had constant support throughout my placement and have always been pushed to my potential, they have given me many opportunities such as extra excel training / technology conferences / presentation skills training which I feel like has put me in the best position to start my career in the technology sector. All the managers I've worked in at Intel look after their people and care about you.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My role as a Market Analyst kept me very busy on a day to day basis, and if I wasn't busy I would make myself busy by getting involved in other parts of the organisation. I believe in order to be most productive you need to be busy. As a Market Analyst I was able to work with a variety of people in different teams, thus I was doing a host of different tasks on a day to day basis. Whether it was making pivot tables, pulling data, compiling information into a presentation, or presenting.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The best part of my placement at Intel was the amount of responsibility not only myself but all Interns get whilst of placement. As an intern in Intel you're a key part to the business, and the day to day tasks I do represents this. I understand that my job is important, as data is key to success. Interns at Intel do real jobs that is incremental to the company's success. Not only are you given responsibility, but authority and trust.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As mentioned previously, Intel invest in you throughout the placement scheme. Throughout my time here I've taken advance excel courses which enabled me to successfully do my job. I've also taken courses in presentation skills for example. I believe these skills assist me heavily in my degree studies and put me in a very good position for after university. You're always learning whilst working in Intel, whether it's internal training about the business or external training.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office was mostly positive - there have been times of uncertainty throughout my placement due to the change of dynamics for the business. But on the whole BMG has a very positive and uplifting atmosphere. At Intel you normally have quarterly events with your team which is not only a great opportunity to network but is also great fun. The Intern community is quite large also, and we have events every 3 weeks, thus the overall office atmosphere is very fun.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation of the overall work placement was seamless. Once you join as an Intern at Intel you have a one month transition period with the previous intern, in this one month you're able to have a basic understanding of the business environment, the overall business and your day to day tasks. All tasks are documented, and within the first few weeks you already have a thorough understanding of Intel as a company due to the heavy training the corporation invest in you.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Intel invest a lot in their people, no matter whether you're a graduate, intern, full timer or apprentice. I've been able to develop a lot of my skills due to the training and development that Intel provide you throughout the scheme. All employees are giving the same opportunity and if you're willing to take it you can develop and grow hugely throughout the scheme. Examples of training I've taken is presentation skills, advanced excel skills, importance of the job ladder and I've also had the opportunity to attend a few conferences and have been inspired by external speakers.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I believe the future employment prospects within the organisation are hugely appealing. Especially because you're always learning throughout your career, you're given a vast amount of opportunity to develop and grow within the organisation. Intel's work culture is also a bonus, it's a very 'work hard, play hard' environment and I believe this incentivises you to be the best you can be in your job. Due to the international aspect of Intel you're also able to work abroad and move across the company which I believe is a great opportunity and you can work up the organisation also.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The social scene at Intel with fellow placement students is seriously second to none. I honestly can't rave about this enough. I believe this is so important. We had the best welcome to our internship from the previous interns with a one month handover period where we got to know one another, network and bond. Throughout my placement, the intern social committee have also set up various events to suit everyone's taste for example: we went to a trampoline park, cinema outings, bar crawls, weekend away in Cornwall, beach party to mention a few - we have events set up by the social committee at least twice a month. The great social scene has allowed me to make friends for life, and really feel welcome and calm joining the company.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Intel is based in Swindon, and Swindon is a relatively cheap place to live and socialise. It depends on the person and what you want to do. There are many free activities in Swindon such as Coate Water and many parks with beautiful nature surroundings. There are also trampoline parks, swimming pools, and a town centre nearby. Swindon as a whole also had very good transport links - both to Bath and Bristol which are great cities. There are also many restaurants which makes it very easy to socialise and due to the great intern community you will never be bored.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife isn't great, but it's what you make of it and who you're with. If you want to have a good time, you can have a good time if you're surrounded by the right people. The social committee at Intel always make an extra effort to put on pub quizzes, and do different events in order to make the nightlife the best it could possibly be. We've had events such as beach parties, house parties, t-shirt social, bar crawls etc... Not only has this really allowed us to get to know the town, but these events are great fun and allows us to be altogether as an Intern community. As mentioned Bath and Bristol are very close by, thus, no need to worry about the nightlife!

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are many opportunities to get involved in activates outside of work. The intern community have many committee themselves such as: Web Safety, Charity Committee, Social Committee, Intel Inspire etc. And Intel as a whole also has different committees such as WIN. These committees help improve the work environment and allows us to really get involved as a team. These committees put on external events where your able to get involved in whether if it's raising money for charity of drinking games!
