    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have enjoyed my placement so far, at Intel we have been given the same job and tasks that any other employee would have so there is no separation between us. My main reason for wanting to get involved in a placement year was so I could get an experience for what roles were available for me and what being out in the workplace was really like. This year has allowed me to do a proper role, and I have also had the opportunity to shadow and work with other teams which has given me the chance to see a number of opportunities.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • There is no difference in job roles from the interns to the rest of the full time employees, as we are doing the same roles we are valued by the team. The majority of the team have come from being a part of the intern program, this allows them to understand what you are doing and are always happy to help.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Within our intern program we have a lot of support from different people, we have weekly meetings with management to discuss what is being worked on and if we are having any issues, we also have an on the job coach which is someone that is doing the same role as us and came from the intern program, this is someone we can go to for job help, or any help regarding work issues, intern help or anything else. I feel like I had had a great level of support throughout and there is always someone to talk to if something comes up.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My daily tasks change on a regular basis, some days I could be super busy because of the tasks I have, or I could be busy because of people being away so I am covering. There are times where it is quiet, and I feel like I am not busy enough. I found that if I am getting too quiet there is always something else I could get involved in, like projects, university work or shadowing other teams. I am very happy with the level of work that I have had this year.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I feel like I have been given a lot of responsibility on my placement, I have had a proper job that all the other employees are doing, we are also trusted to get on with our job alone, and have the opportunity to get help if needed. I don't feel like I am treated any differently because I am an intern.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There has been a lot of opportunities to develop skills during my placement year, either through training programs or through practical experience. I have developed skills that will be useful to me when I return to university and when at a job after graduation. I have been able to attend trainings and develop my skills in networking, presentation, communication, excel and many more.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • We have a very chilled out atmosphere at the office, we are left to get on with our own work and plan our own days. There is a lot organised within the interns and the team as a whole, meaning that it can also be a very social and fun place.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There was a lot of organisation put into our internship, we had a month handover from the previous interns which allowed us to ease into the role smoothly. for the first month, there was a lot organised and planned for you, then once this was over we were left to plan our own time and make the most out of the time we had.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There are continuous training programs that we can sign up to on our internship, there are also online training sites that Intel give us access to. this means that I have the opportunity to learn and develop in many different areas. I feel like there was a lot of investment into my development throughout the year.

    Above 25 days holiday

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love to have the opportunity to return to work at Intel as I have enjoyed this year and think that this would be a great place to return to. I do however wish that we would know if we had the opportunity sooner, previously they had told us Dec/Jan next year so I will probably already start to apply for other jobs within this time.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is a lot of social activities that has happened, both with the other interns and with my team. We have done things like intern sports day, netball, rounder's, trampolining, pub quiz, nights out and with the team we have done activity days, corp games, team building days and basketball. There is also a lot of opportunities to organise other activities.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I live at home this year, this is because my family only live a 40 minute drive away from the workplace. This meant that I could save on living costs and I still had the opportunity to stay up with other interns or team members on a night out, or if something was going on.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was average. Swindon isn't the best for its bars and clubs, however the interns made the night outs good. There is a lot of interns in this area that meant that you were out with enough people to not take a lot of notice to the location that you are out in.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There are a lot of opportunities to get involved in other activities, these were mainly organised by the other interns, The interns have a sports and social committee that work to plan events and activities separate to work, that everyone can get involved in, we did things like a weekend away, sport activities, pub night and quizzes.
