  • Throughout my time at Savills I definitely felt valued - the team were very friendly and when I completed work it never went unnoticed. From the feedback I was given it was made clear that I had made a valuable contribution to the team during my time on the Summer Scheme and so it was clear that my work was appreciated. The frequent meetings with HR also showed that this is a company that really cared about your enjoyment and wellbeing.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Organised meetings with HR for feedback to see how you were enjoying it were very helpful and a great opportunity to be able to speak honestly about the experience. Savills seems to have a great support system and your enjoyment of the internship is clearly very important to them. Definitely looked after students on the Summer Scheme and was good to know that they cared about how we were getting on.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt a huge amount during the Summer Scheme, as I was given a varied amount of work and this practical understanding of real estate will undoubtedly prepare me well for my Masters course in Real Estate next year. Hopefully the experience and skills I have gained from the Summer Scheme will stand me in good stead for beginning a grad scheme in 2017.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was very well structured and organised. The company organised for us to have regular departmental overviews from members of other teams so that we could get a broad idea of Savills and the other departments within it and how they work together. Furthermore, HR organised social events for us to meet other students on the Summer Scheme which I really enjoyed.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere on the Summer Scheme was great - really enjoyable working environment and everyone gets on very well. A good working environment with a very good work/life balance. An atmosphere of productivity in which everyone is enthusiastic to achieve targets as a team. The general atmosphere is definitely one of the most positive things about Savills.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I definitely developed a lot of skills throughout my time on the Summer Scheme, as I was given reasonably varied work and training that I will certainly benefit from in my future degree and career. It may have been helpful to gain some more experience outside of the office, however I appreciate that this was largely due to the quiet time of year as opposed to any fault of the insight scheme.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The Summer Scheme definitely gave me a good insight into the culture and ethos of Savills and what it would be like to work here full-time. The departmental overviews and various talks that we were able to attend were a key part of enabling us to gain a good overview of Savills and the different departments within it. It was great to hear about people's experiences from all different sectors of the business.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The Summer Scheme was definitely a great insight into the culture at Savills. As we were given the opportunity to meet so many different members of staff from different areas and levels of the business, I was able to get a broader feel for the company by listening to people's experiences and gain a greater understanding of the company culture.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The Savills Summer Scheme definitely confirmed to me that real estate is the career path I would like to go down, and I was able to experience an area of real estate that I would not have normally considered. This meant that I was able to try something completely new which made me realise that there are several different pathways that I could enjoy. It made it clear to me that my original plan may not have been as well-suited to me as I thought.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I think the fact that Summer Scheme students were paid for their time on the scheme was very positive as it makes you feel more valued as a member of the team. We were also encouraged to make sure that we claimed any expenses from site visits etc. which the company were very keen to reimburse for us.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • One of the main strengths of the Savills Summer Scheme was the way in which we were provided with so many opportunities to meet employees from several different sectors of the business. One of the organised events was a networking lunch, which allowed us to chat with the Savills fee earners and learn more about the different areas of the company. This was a fantastic way to meet new people are expand our network for the future.

  • The social events that were organised for us at the Savills Summer Scheme were also very well organised and allowed us to get to know the other students on the Summer Scheme better. The company organised welcome drinks for us during the first few days and also a game of rounders in the park which was a really fun way of getting to know everyone.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes - one of the talks we were given during the Summer Scheme gave a thorough overview of what life is like as a grad at Savills and informed us of all of the activities employees can get involved with outside of work. For example, the company have several different sports teams which all graduate employees are invited to get involved in.
