    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I very much enjoyed my summer scheme internship with Savills. From day one I was made to feel welcome and was given work to do so that I could get involved straight away. The work I did over the four weeks was very varied and included a good balance of office work and trips out which was brilliant.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From the very beginning everyone was friendly and welcoming. The office is open plan which facilitates conversation between the teams and the atmosphere in the office is very friendly. I was treated as part of the team straight away, being included in the tea rounds and being invited by people from all teams to join in the with the work they are doing at the moment.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The general national graduate team sent me lots of information, both before the placement and once it had started to ensure the smooth running of my internship. Thanks to the information they provided, there were no issues with getting logged on and started straight away. My mentor was there to give advice and answer any questions and to make sure I always had things to do.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I have done a few work placements before and I find that there is nothing worse than having nothing to do and having to go around begging people to give you some work. I did not need to worry about that on this internship. Everyone in the office was very good at giving me jobs to do and taking me with them when they went out of the office.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Overall I would say I was given a fair level of responsibility. Some of the work I was doing, particularly towards the beginning of the placement did not involve a great deal of responsibility. However this did pick up and towards the end of the placement I was given the job of conducting viewings if any were arranged for a colleague who was away.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I truly believe that everything I have done on this placement will help me with my masters course next year and with getting a job in the future. I plan to go into the same industry as this placement, so it has given me a fantastic knowledge of the kind of work that I will be doing in a years time when I come to apply for jobs.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was very friendly and relaxed, whilst also being very work focused. Everyone of course works very hard but also manages to have a laugh and share a joke from time to time. I think this is good because it keeps people in good spirits and facilitates communication within the office.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall summer scheme placement was very well organised. The graduate team were sending me emails and packs of information in the lead up to my placement to ensure that I knew what I was doing. This ensured a very easy start and quick set up when I arrived, as there were no problems with logging on or finding a desk etc.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Throughout the placement there was lots of training on offer. There were online seminar workshops every week that I could log in to to watch and listen to the presentation. These were on all departments within the company and were very interesting and helpful for getting a feel for the variety of service the company offers.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects within the organisation are extremely appealing. This placement has confirmed to me that this is the company I would like to work for in the future. This is because of the good atmosphere in the workplace, the brilliant reputation of the company, the unrivalled training it provides to graduates and the quality and diversity of work it does.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • In London I think there was more of a social scene among colleagues, however in the office I was in there was not much of a social scene after work.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
