    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • As someone who had not studied property at university this internship taught me an incredible amount. I have done previous internships and can safely say this placement has been one of the most enjoyable. The culture within the company is one of the best I have experienced.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Extremely valued. With each piece of work that you did with someone in your team it was conveyed that you were being of genuine help to their day to day job. It was very easy to get to know anyone and once you helped with a project you were updated as to its development from then onwards.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • At the beginning of the internship you are given a mentor who tends to be a new graduate at the company. This mentor is your primary contact in terms of questions etc. However, my team as a whole looked after me better than I could have imagined. One month is not a long time to get to know everyone in your team but in my case everyone went above and beyond to get to know me.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On an internship you want to be working constantly, to immerse yourself in the industry as much as possible. For me, there was not a day where I didn't have something to do. Each day would be something different which made the internship all the more engaging.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was particularly luck in the fact that my team provided me with constant work that carried real responsibility. The culture of "peer reviewing" all work meant that I was allowed to make mistakes, and when I did, they would be explained. This meant that as my internship went on the mistakes I made initially slowly but surely filtered out of my work; allowing me to develop my skills so much faster.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As I'm finished with my degree they will not help in that respect. However, in terms of my career in property, the skills I have learned will be invaluable. The learning curve from when I first joined, to the end of my internship has been incredible. I have a much greater understanding of what it takes to maintain a career in property. My technical skills related to property have grown ten fold.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere was very good. Everyone was very happy to help and answer any questions you may have no matter their seniority. There were also a number of networking lunches in which you were able to interact and meet with some of the most senior members of the company. The company was very transparent.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was extremely well set up. There were a number of talks from the various departments in the company. This was to aid our understanding of the various sectors that Savills works in. This was especially helpful as a newcomer to the property industry. There were also a number of networking lunches in which you were able to interact and meet with some of the most senior members of the company.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company I and team I worked for invested a great deal of trust in me. I was charged with helping on work that had a real affect on the day to day jobs of the employee's I worked with. They also invested in us in terms of the talks and meetings we had with other employees.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. Having learnt so much about the different paths I could take within the company I have a much clearer picture in my mind as to what the company offers to a future graduate. The company were very transparent in terms of career progression and the various pathways to take as a potential graduate.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a very good social scene amongst both the placement students, my colleagues and the people in my team. Savills organised a number of social events for graduates and interns to meet. While I also managed to go on a number of social events with my actual team, including cricket and lunch.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was limited due to the fact that my family home is in central London and the office are also in central London. In terms of socialising the area was one of the best. But, as it was central London is was fairly expensive. However, this is to be expected and if you search there are a number of cheaper options.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • We were based in the West end of central London and so the night life was the almost unrivalled. There were hundreds of nightclubs, bars, pubs and restaurants to visit. The transport links were also incredible meaning that you could access any other area of London within minutes. It was very good.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The were numerous and constant opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. We were given regular updates about possible events to go and take part in. One example would be an afternoon playing rounder's in Finsbury Park with the graduates from that year. Other than that there were many other opportunities.
