    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • - Very enjoyable, particularly the overseas placement element of the scheme.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • - Definitely felt valued, though perhaps a little more in the overseas office than in London. - Had good feedback on work and felt as though I had been given real work, not just quick intern style tasks.

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • - Quite a bit of guidance, although a bit more could have been useful on the more technical work areas.

    4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • - The placement has helped me put what I have learned during my degree into practice and I feel it has filled in some of the gaps in my experience. - I´ll be going into the graduate recruitment process with a better appreciation of what I am aiming for and what the APC pathways entail.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • - Quite well structured and really good support from the HR team.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • - Nice atmosphere in the office and always felt welcomed. I very much appreciated my colleagues being willing to answer questions and help me out in terms of language when overseas.

    4/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • - Not much in terms of training, but the placement was relatively short. - It might have been helpful to have some technical training regarding real estate and valuation processes, especially as these are often covered quite briefly at university. - However, I felt the company made an investment in the interns by paying them well and expecting high quality work from them, which is in contrast to many other companies offering internships to students at a similar stage of career development.

    3/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • - Very good understanding of what a permanent role would be like, partially from the work I have completed myself and partly from observing others. - Appreciated that my team arranged for me to speak with staff from other departments that I was interested in, and going out of their way to make that happen.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • - Have seen a very different culture in each office, one overseas and one in London, so it might be difficult to determine a single Savills culture. - However, both were possitive impressions and the experience has definitely enabled me to compare Savills to other firms in the same industry.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • - The experience has helped me judge what various permanent roles in Savills would be like on a day to day basis, some of that positive and some of it negative or less interesting. - I think it has also shown me what type of environment I would like to work in, and I would be very attracted to working internationally and bilingually on future occaisons.

    4/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • - Very good pay, especially considering that accommodation and travel were also paid for. - I think this is very important in ensuring that people can complete the placement regardless of their parents´financial background. In my case that made the difference between being able to take up the role and having to decline. - Having done other internships, I would say that Savills gets more out of its interns because they feel valued and take the experience seriously. You feel less like an intern and more like a regular member of staff.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • - Quite good networking opportunities, though mainly through normal day to day social events. I met people from other teams on a regular basis and was able to get a broad understanding of the business. I am confident that I would come back to some of these contacts in the future.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • - Social events within my team were good and plentiful (lunch, drinks etc.). The London office was more focused on pub trips, and the overseas office tended to go out for lunch, reflecting the general cultural differences at play. Both were well organised and really easy to slot into. In the overseas office I felt these were great opportunities to speak in the second language and get to know the country better.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • - I was only in the London office for 2 weeks and there were not any activities that I was aware of, but I was there before the other interns had arrived. - In the overseas office I got the impression that activities were not a big part of their work culture, and again I was the only intern, so there was nothing scheme specific.

    3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • - I would definitely recommend it to anyone considering a similar career. It is probably only suitable for people studying a RICS related degree so in that sense doesn´t have very broad appeal. - The placement has felt like a good use of the 6 weeks and will help me make much more informed decisions about graduate employment.

    5/5
