The Role
I enjoyed working for Savills and after a week or two I was really able to grasp how the industry operates. The internship lasted 1 month and I found this to be a bit short as it takes a few weeks to settle in and get involved in more important projects. However the exeprience I have gained has been extremely relevant and the month was very enjoyable. I will be applying to the graduate scheme this October.
The team I worked with was fairly small and so I found settling into the department fairly easy. The work I completed, although not always very complex was always appreciated.
Unfortunately my internship ran through a very busy time for my department, as a result the team werent always available to give me guidance. Having initiative to take on roles or complete work without guidance is useful.
The amount of work varied on a day to day basis, depending on the number of client pitches and services being required.
Towards the end of my placement I was given more responsibility over creating client documents as the Director was away. This was beneficial as it enabled me to get involved to a greater extent.
The skills and experience I have learnt will help me greatly as they are extremely relevant yet broad enough that they may be applied to a greater scope of services within the Property Industry.
The Company
Friendly and welcoming.
The internship was well organised with regular appraisals, social and networking events and talks on the different sectors wihtin the industry.
The firms regular talks on the differing sectors aided me to determine which sector I would most like to work in on securing a job. The team I was workiing with also ensured I learnt new skills and gained further knowledge in the services provided and ways in which they provide them.
Company Parties/Events
I would really like to gain a place with Savills in the future, however I dont think I would like to work full time in the department I was placed in for the internship.
The Culture
All of the interns made sure there were social outings atleast once a week. It was a key element as it made setlling in much easier.
The office in the west end has some cheaper places earby, but other places can be expensive.
The bars were good, but often more expensive
The company organised social events such as rounders in Hyde Park which was a good opportunity to socialise
