    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the insight scheme at Savills, Reading. Working with the team for a week gave me a good understanding of the real working world, putting my course skills to the test and furthering my understanding of the industry. The scheme included office work and also site visits; and I was also included in both the Development team but also the Planning team. Having this mix of both industries further helps decide future career path.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt genuinely valued by the team and the company due to the inclusion in many tasks. Savills team in Reading were able to allocate time to train me in programs and give me meaningful tasks to complete for real projects. I was able to also see where the information I gathered went and why I was tasked with specific jobs.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • When allocated tasks, I was given support and detailed guidance in how to complete these tasks. I found this very helpful and if I was still stuck I could ask anyone in the team for advice. When sitting in on meetings I was able to note down things I wanted to ask and after the clientele left I was given time to ask my queries.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • All the skills I have learnt at Savills will help further my understanding of my course and will help with future work and lectures. Some skills, such as computer programs, which will help with applying for future internships within the company and outside of the company.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight program had 2 timetables; a generalised timetable that was produced for all Savills offices throughout the country and a personalised timetable that was produced by the specific office you were at. The Reading office produced a well organised and well structured weeks plan which included site visits, lunches and meetings with the staff.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The Savills team in Reading were friendly from the get go. They were incredibly inclusive in all aspects of the workplace and this was furthered by drinks with staff and lunch with fee earners. The work place atmosphere encourages hard working behaviour but also allows for a friendly enviroment.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Time was spent going through programs and training was of good quality. Different members of the team that specialise in different areas were able to allocate time out of their day to go through specific jobs that happen in the day to day working life. Therefore they invested lots of time in their graduates.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The 9 to 5 working days with a mix of what each individual in the team accomplishes in a day gave me a fantastic insight into what it would be like to have a full time role in one of those jobs. Over the week I was given tasks to complete by a deadline, just like in the working world.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The culture of Savills was portrayed through different ways, the first of which was the hard working culture which though the everyday working environment. The lunch time talk and friendly staff showed the sociable side of the company, this was furthered by drinks and lunch with the staff.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • With Savills having so many differing career paths, being showed the mix of what each individual in the office accomplishes in a day gave me a fantastic insight into what it would be like to have a full time role in one of those jobs. Spending a bit of time with each member I was able to get a greater understanding of their roles within the company.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We were allocated £100 worth of expenses. This is enough to cover majority of my food, travel and accommodation but not all.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • I was introduced to all members of staff upon arrival. With business meetings and meeting clientele out side of the office I was given an excellent opportunity to network and meet other employees in general. All of the staff internal to the company were able to show me what they achieve in a day promoting relationships.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • We were timetabled 2 social events inside our one week placement, one was drinks at a local bar near the office after close. The other event was lunch at a nearby restaurant. With the mix of both these events, the networking opportunities were good. One reason for the events being a good opportunity was due to the high number of office participants.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • activities that employees got involved with outside of work were freely talked about during lunch times. We were also informed about these events when visiting the Savills sale office in a near by village. These activities included a duathlon that is taking place at the end of April 2016 and another which is a 3 peaks trip.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I toughly enjoyed my time at the Savills insight scheme but since all my relevant friends already applied I have no need to recommend this program to a friend.
