The placement was very enjoyable, beginning with the week in London. This gave us a chance to get to grips with networking with 70+ people, who were all having the same experience, before dispursing to our various offices and doing the same with employees of various seniority. The work was challenging and enjoyable, and the very friendly culture of the firm was evident from the outset.
I really enjoyed my time at DLA Piper. The scheme was well organised and the events which we attended added something different to the scheme, such as going for dinner and visiting the Lord Mayor of Sheffield. I was given actual work to do which enabled me to gain an accurate insight into the sort of work I would be doing as a trainee. I also enjoyed meeting all of the other students in London and have made some real friendships with the other students in my regional office.
Spending three weeks at DLA Piper really allowed me to get to know the firm in depth. I got a very good perspective on how the firm works and most importantly, on what differentiates the firm from its competitors. The programme was well-organised and despite the IT attack the firm suffered during the time I was there, DLA Piper still came out as a very ambitious firm that will grow in the years to come.
I really enjoyed participating in the scheme. I felt that everyone got on really well and people were willing to help you out if you needed anything. Also, we developed a good relationship with graduate recruitment and I also felt that I was able to go to them with any issues I had. The lawyers I worked with were always willing to talk to me about the firm and the work they were doing and I didn't feel hesitant in asking any questions. The work I was given was challenging and pushed me out of my comfort zone which was a good experience.
The vacation scheme was an extremely beneficial experience because I had the opportunity to hear many interesting people (including the co-CEO!) speak about various topics, and also participate in authentic trainee tasks to get a realistic insight into what life at a city law firm is like, while meeting a lot of great people.
I really enjoyed the insight (vacation scheme) as a whole. The structure of the scheme was beneficial in understanding the culture of the firm. The first week of the scheme was filled with various presentations and insight sessions, the second and third week were spent in two separate departments. Through out the scheme various events and socials were also organised assisting in the understanding of the culture of the firm.
The first week was quite average, although there was varied work. The second week (in a different department) was absolutely fantastic, with the opportunity to get involved with some really interesting and important new work (despite only being a vac-schemer).
Overall, I really enjoyed the insight day at DLA Piper. I had previously attended open days at magic circle law firms so it was a nice change to be able to experience what it was like at a regional law firm. They also had a good structure throughout the day.
