I enjoyed the insight very much. The first week of talks and professional skills training with allotted time to undertake group presentation tasks was a nice way to ease us in and for us to familiarise ourselves. Equally, the second and third weeks of the scheme in our practice groups were excellent and I gleaned a lot of knowledge from my time spent in those departments. This learning experience was augmented by meeting great people - both the other vacation scheme students and the DLA Piper staff.
I had a great time on the vacation scheme. I thought it was such a good idea that all the students were in London for the first four days as I really enjoyed meeting other students. Although I was extremely nervous on the first day, because there were so many of us from all different offices I think this gave us all something different to talk about and made the whole experience more fun. The induction week in London was great and all the presentations and tasks gave me a variety of things to do. The two weeks in Sheffield were just as good as there were plenty of things after work which was organised for the students which I enjoyed.
I really enjoyed the insight because there were a range of different activities that we participated in. I also feel that the whole experience truly gave me a valuable insight into various different aspects of the firm. It was also highly useful because I feel as though I now have a better understand of what it may be like to work at DLA Piper longer term.
We got a good understating of the firm through talks from some of the most senior members of the firm. This allowed us to appreciate the scale of the firm and its global footprint. We were then immersed in the day to day running of the firm in the regional offices. This helped to show us what a normal day would be like and what we could expect. We were also invited to numerous social events which allowed us to meet lots of people and get a feel for the culture of the firm.
I really enjoyed the scheme. My line managers were friendly and got me involved in as much as possible and the support available to vacation scheme students was wide-ranging. I was able to make the most of the tasks given to me because I felt comfortable asking for help and discussing tasks with my assigned scheme buddy.
The Vacation Scheme was well structured, and involved a week in London for all the students from all the Offices in the UK to meet. This gave us all a bedrock of confidence moving forwards, and we were more relaxed and able to enjoy our time more as a result.
I really enjoyed the vacation scheme. The whole thing was run so efficiently (even with the cyber attack!) and everyone at the firm was welcoming and full of ethusiasm. The week in London was fantastic, it was great to speak with partners and sit with them at the meal in a more relaxed setting. I found the pitch project quite stressful initially as it seemed like a lot of work but once me and my partner had worked out how we wanted to conduct the presentation this was also enjoyable.
I enjoyed the Vac Scheme as it opened me up to understanding the life of a lawyer and what the job entails on a daily basis. We had many activities, the catering was great and everyone from the grad team to the partners were really welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend that you apply.
The vacation scheme was a very useful way to get an insight into what life would be like working for a global commercial law firm. The structure of the scheme meant that we spent the first 4 days in the London office, which allowed us to meet people from all the other regional offices and London office. We then spent the remaining two weeks in our chosen office, spending time in two departments. The first week was more introductory, and allowed us to settle in and get a good feel of the firm.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the vacation scheme, with the most enjoyable part of it being the people. From the moment the scheme started we were welcomed into the firm, not only by the graduate recruitment team but by partners and associates across all levels who gave us talks, worked with us in departments or even just came to find us and introduce themselves. The scheme was well organised and the induction week was really helpful to ease us into the scheme and help us get to know everyone.
The vacation scheme was a really good way to get to know the firm. I enjoyed the open day but when I began the vacation scheme I was still a bit sceptic as to the culture of the firm but this was quickly amended. All the staff, whether they are partners, associate, catering and recruitment are really friendly and approachable. I was able to gain an insight into areas of law I had not considered before and was able to work on client matters.
The vacation scheme was better than I even had imagined. I was immersed into life at DLA Piper from day one, getting to know the exact ethos, culture, and motivations of the business and I was thrilled to discover that they matched my own entirely. I came away from the scheme only wishing it was longer, demonstrating the extent of my enjoyment.
