I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the firm, from the moment we all arrived in London we were blown away by the effort and investment DLA had put into the internship. On the very first day we took part in really fun networking activities that helped to break the ice and allowed friendships to form early on. During the week in London we had the most amazing intern dinner and once we returned to our regional offices the trainees ensured we were able to participate in the office social life.
I have really enjoyed my time spent at DLA Piper, a firm with a true open-door policy. People across the firm are genuinely invested in success of the internship programme, they have all been very welcoming, fun and friendly to work with. I got stuck into challenging work during my two seats and received valuable feedback on my progress throughout.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the Summer Internship. The event was well-organised, and ensured that we left with a sense of the firm's true values. Inviting all the interns from the regional offices to take part in a four-day induction in London was a great way of reflecting how DLA Piper employees interact with each other across the offices in accordance with their One UK strategy. The Insight felt professional and I enjoyed being challenged by the work I was set within my practice areas. Nevertheless, we were also treated to meals out where we could socialise with the other interns and also get to know some of the partners better. It felt as though you were valued just as much for your personality as you were for your intellectual abilities.
I very much enjoyed my time at DLA Piper. I particularly enjoyed the last two weeks in which we were able to spend time in the departments and do real and meaningful work. I really appreciated how much time and effort, the line managers put into making sure I had a great experience throughout the time I was there.
The DLA Graduate Recruitment team have done a full overhaul of the Vacation Scheme programme (now renamed the Internship Programme) in their efforts to bring DLA Piper into the modern era. The first week is an induction week, with 4 days in London and then the final Friday is an induction into the office that you applied for. (For those concerned about cost: DLA Piper paid for our hotel for the 4 nights (Sunday to Wednesday night) and fed us breakfast, lunch and either provided or reimbursed us for dinner) The first 4 days were packed with activity. All the interns from the UK offices were involved, and we were encouraged to network with everyone. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], the co-CEO, gave the first talk and Sandra Wallace, UK Managing Partner, closed the induction. This gives just an inkling into the investment that the firm is willing to put into its future and these are just two examples of the many speakers who hold high management positions but still found the time to give us in-depth talks around their experiences at the firm and answers to our questions. There were also activities on presentation skills and pro bono projects, which meant that the days were still relatively interactive. The following two weeks are where we worked in the office, one practice group per week. There were still a lot of activities planned during those two weeks, such as Practice Insight sessions which focused on specific practice areas. There are also social activities interspersed between the work, to give you networking opportunities and light breaks. This overview gives an indication into how it was enjoyable in different ways. Overall, the internship has been mentally exhausting, with a lot of information to absorb and the personal pressure of making a good impression - but I have got exactly what I want from the programme, which was to learn more about the firm and about work as commercial lawyer and to develop my skills.
The vacation scheme was on the whole a lot of fun. There were parts which felt fairly mundane - 8 hours of talks for the first week followed by an hour every day for the second and third week felt a bit too much, but the work given in our respective seats and the staff at the firm made the experience wholly enjoyable.
Absolutely LOVED and enjoyed the 3 weeks vac scheme. I met fantastic people from all offices, made amazing friends with fellow interns, built great network with professionals within the firm and get tons of brilliant opportunities to learn and grow my career prospect. Definitely recommend DLA Piper to anyone who wants to get exposure to life in a huge giant friendly international law firm!
The Summer Internship Progrsamme held by DLA Piper is truly unique, in being held acorss their seven UK offices, their Hong Kong office and also one of their offices in Australia (even the internships/vacation schemes are global)! I have thoroughly enjoyed the internship, as I have met some truly inspirational people, learnt a great deal about the firm, had access to some incredible work, and have also had a truly wonderful time throughout.
I thoroughly enjoyed my summer internship with DLA Piper. I was based in a regional office for the work experience weeks so the week-long London induction was an amazing opportunity to get to know other interns from the 7 UK offices. We were given a number of excellent talks from top leaders in the firm, including CEO [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] and UK Managing Partner [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions]. Sessions with these speakers proved that, while leading in providing excellent legal services to its clients, DLA Piper is a firm with inspiring, committed and down-to-earth people at its core. The induction week also included Professional Skills sessions and an insight into Responsible Business and Pro Bono within the firm. The two mini-seats in my regional office were also excellent, working alongside friendly and helpful colleagues and getting a real insight into the everyday workings of the firm.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable placement. I have been welcomed into the firm and already feel like I am a part of the team that works here! There were many opportunities given to me, includng insight sessions, hands-on work, networking and social events. Each department I worked made me feel welcome and made the whole experience more enjoyable. Overall, a great scheme!
Really enjoyed the internship. First week down in London was filled with lots of talks from senior partners and even the CEO of the firm, alongside many social activities. The second and third week were located in two different practice groups at the firm, which provided opportunity to get involved in real work done by the firm. Would highly recommend the placement!
