    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I had a throughly great time on my internship! Everyone within the company was very welcoming, encouraging and informative - I really felt part of the community as soon as I joined!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt really valued by my colleagues while working at Grant Thornton. Every piece of work I did was acknowledged and valued by my incharge. There was great rapport between team members and I really felt involved!

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support system at Grant Thornton is fantastic - if I ever had a query or problems, my supervisor, the HR team and all of the other employees were more than welcome to get involved and help me out!

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was kept busy for the entirety of my internship and had a schedule of which jobs I would be working on. Each day I would be given tasks to do, however, when there was nothing that I could tackle and complete on my own, I would often not be just as busy. However, overall, I felt that I was able to complete a wide range of tasks and get lots of experience!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During my internship, I was given quite a lot of responsibility. Mainly in relation to the work papers I was to complete, I was required to use my initiative, knowledge and skills I was developing to take charge of that work paper and complete it to the best of my ability. On one job, I was given an entire section to complete over the two weeks I was working on that particular job. It seemed like a daunting task but it allowed me to develop skills in being responsible for my own work and increasing my working knowledge.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I do not study accountancy at university and therefore, I believed the skills I already possessed would not be the most relevant however, I quickly learnt that they were and that those skills I would develop over my 7 weeks would prove very transferable. I believe that everything I have learnt over my internship will help greatly coming into my last year of university and for my graduate job.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • My internship was extremely well organised from day 1 until the last day. We had plenty of opportunities to develop of knowledge and skill set within the accountancy profession but also with networking and broader business areas. We had the chance for a few days away at Bradenham with the other interns and had the opportunity to meet the new CEO Sasha!

  • Grant Thornton throughly invests a lot in its employees from day 1. We had plenty of opportunities for networking and for development. We were lucky enough to attending a presentation skills workshop at Bradenham which was both fun and informative and there was never any problems helping you out.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a fantastic social scene for all the employees across all levels of the business! I was able to attend several different events, including team ping pong and drinks to the London Audit Away day to social events on away jobs! We also had a very active social scene amongst the other interns, we all attended organised events and quite often we would meet ourselves to catch up on what we had been doing! It was a great way to get to know everyone really well in a fun and relaxed atmosphere!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was working in London, therefore prices were a little bit more than other parts of the UK. However, this was all very in balance and Grant Thornton took this into consideration! The events were often heavily subsidised meaning that everyone could attend, which really brought about a sense of community! You also had the options of spending as little or as much as you liked in terms of personal expenditure and Grant Thornton offered a very well priced cafe and free tea and coffee - you therefore didn't have to worry to much!

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in London is pretty exciting - you are able to do whatever you feel like, at whatever time! Therefore, we had some exciting social events at basement ping pong clubs and even managed to have drinks in an underground tube station as a celebration for getting our graduate jobs! There was something to do for everyone and all tastes were catered for!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were loads of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work! Grant Thornton has several active sporting societies, which everyone is encourage to get involved in. Almost all of the people I worked with were involved in one of these societies! The employees are also all pretty good at organising events for there year group or for the trainees and as interns, we were always invited to go along and get to know them!
