The Role
Overall a great experience
I feel that my colleagues really valued the work I did
I was given support from many channels especially from my line manager, also from my assigned graduate buddy and the intern natural work team.
Some periods were quieter than others and some interns were busier than others but I found I was very busy a lot of the time
I was given a fair amount of responsibility but there was always support to fall back on if you were struggling
I think it has definitely taught me a lot about the world of working and also helped me in deciding my career path
The Company
I was in Technology so the atmosphere was very relaxed, with table tennis games being played over lunch and business casual dress.
The technology placement was extremely well organised with trips to various different parts of the business, such as a call an social media centre in Cardiff where they handle complaints from all media channels from letters to tweets. Also visiting a dotcom centre where they pick shopping for online orders and showed us the automated system. Although we were told quite late which area we would be working in specifically
They encouraged us to create a personal development plan (PDP) and gave us free access to resources like codeschool. I was also offered VFQ and agile training. We also had central development days at Tesco Academy and offsite venue.
Subsidised/Company Gym
We were in contact with many graduates who seemed to be looked after and very happy
The Culture
We got on well as a whole intern cohort, we went out most fridays in London (not much to do in Welwyn).
Cost of living is slightly higher than some other areas, however going out in London isn't the cheapest
Welwyn not so good, London pretty much anything you can think of and it's only 30 mins by train between Welwyn Garden City and Kings Cross
Yeah we had a few team drinks and we had quite a few events with just interns organised by ourselves
