    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • A typical day will be filled with meetings with different people, can be product managers, engineers, other TMPs, between meetings you have time to do admin tasks e.g. build RACIs/ project plans/ following up with people. Each day is different sometimes you have daily meetings with the same people, sometimes completely new people. Your main job as a TPM is to be the middle man between stakeholders and engineers and motivate others.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have built on my communication skills, particularly talking with so many different people daily. I have also built on my time efficiency and organisational skills. They really encourage curiosity and be involved as much as you want. I learnt how to use teams and how to set up meetings with people you haven't met. I absorbed so much knowledge about the thought and process of how projects happen.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • It depends highly on your line manager but because I was put on an actual project, you are given responsibility but not to manage the whole project by yourself as that is an unrealistic expectation. The main goal is to give you a flavour of the job, the day-to-day and the difficulties and challenges of that role. You can ask for more if you want it and get involved with what you find interesting.

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • The support is amazing, you get speed mentoring, a buddy before you even join, a tech intern manager, a general intern manager, a line manager, your other interns. There is tons of support available and places to find it. Also, everyone no matter how high their position is willing and happy to talk to you. Everyone is super friendly and welcoming.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • It was very friendly, welcoming and polite. They really are true to their word of saying thank you and even when frustrated they make sure that they don't take it out on others. The general atmosphere is really nice especially the tech building, you talk to each other and are always happy to have a conversation.

  • 7. Would you recommend Tesco plc to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Tesco plc
  • I would say it is a great place to apply and to intern. A massive advantage is that it is such a huge company you can learn so much and especially in tech, it is so much bigger and complex then you could imagine. It is a great place to learn and explore and it is genuinely encouraged for you to do so. If you are unsure what you want to do in the future, Tesco is great to come understand what options you can have.
