    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Overall I've found the experience very enjoyable and would definitely recommend it to other people considering applying here. Throughout the two months I've been here I've been given some interesting tasks to do that I've enjoyed a lot and that will provide a lot of value in the future. The company have been very helpful in general and have arranged events for the interns throughout the time.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I definitely feel like I've been made a member of the team I was working in and that the projects I was working would provide a lot of value to them in the future. Any suggestions or comments I made were always considered by them, they didn't just dismiss me as the "intern" who didn't know anything about anything.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Throughout the internship my manager has been happy to help with any problems I have. I was also assigned a mentor which I found very helpful, he was always willing to spend time helping me out and explaining things to me. Any tasks that I was given were also clearly explained as to what I needed to do and if anything was unclear I could ask about it.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Just the right amount :) I was never just sitting around twiddling my thumbs, if I finished one thing my manager always had more interesting work left for me to do which was nice. On the other hand I never felt like I was completely swamped with work and didn't have enough time to do it all. There was definitely a nice balance reached between the two.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I would be given briefs on the tasks I needed to accomplish, but I was then responsible for coming up with the design of these features so I was given quite a lot of responsibility there. I was then also responsible for implementing that feature myself, so I guess in that sense they trusted me to not make too big of a mess of it.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It's been very good to get some practical experience in a real software development company. I learn C at the time I've been here which will be definitely be useful in the future, but I've also learnt to work in a software development team, as well as being able to manage my time better and estimate how long programming tasks will take which is a very important skill but one that is very tricky to get right.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office is very friendly, welcoming and relaxed. When I first arrived my manager introduced me to everyone in the team and they're all very nice people. I like also that it is relaxed, there's no enforced dress code here which is something that I personally like (although most people aren't just wearing t-shirts), and the working hours themselves are flexible.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I thought the entire internship was very well organised. Throughout the two months, there have been events that have been set up for the interns, the highlight of these was a hackathon that lasted a few days and was great fun. There have also been other things though such as a session on improving our presentation skills, and a meal for the interns. They also have drinks each week for new interns.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company seemed very eager to invest in the interns. They put a lot of effort in to organising events on improving our skills, and we were also taught how to program if you don't already know how to.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Definitely consider working here.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was working here over the summer and there were about 20-30 other interns here at the same time which was good fun. We all quickly made friends and being in London there's obviously a lot of stuff to do here. We went out a few time to central London but there's also a cinema locally in Enfield and a few nice pubs. The company also organised a few social events for the interns like meals.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London prices so quite expensive.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in Enfield itself is not that great, however central London is only a train ride away and I've been out several time to London over the weeks I've been here which was a lot of fun. If you're just staying in Enfield there are lots of nice pubs nearby which are always great fun for having a drink or two in (and the company give you a tab when there are new interns).

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The company itself have lots of sporting events that happen at lunch every day and all the interns are welcome to join in these. Whilst I was there they was also having a sort of competition that featured a variety of different events (sports, cooking, video games etc) and we were also welcome to enter in to this which was good fun.
