    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship. The team I worked in were really welcoming and gave me plenty of interesting and engaging work to do. The work I did was directly incorporated into the product which made it easier to put in more effort to deliver high quality pieces of work.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As mentioned before, I really enjoyed working in the team that I was placed in. Everyone was friendly and helpful whenever I had any problems. My mentor was excellent and gave helpful guidance throughout my internship. I was working with several other interns in a small sub-team which gave us all great experience of working in a team and running a team.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was generally available if I needed support with any queries and my mentor was always available to help with problems if I encountered them.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As I was part of the main team, there was always work to be done. Sometimes, I would get stuck and require assistance. At these points, I would potentially have to wait until my mentor was available, but there was always another task to be working on. In general, the work was challenging enough to keep me engaged throughout the working day.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given plenty of responsibility, such as submitting code and it was then incorporated into the final product. During my internship I was part of a team of interns and we took it in turns to run the team which gave me plenty of chance to improve my leadership skills.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The coding skills that I learned and developed during the internship will be extremely beneficial during the final year of my degree and beyond. Being expected to meet industry standards taught me the importance of producing code of a professional standard. Some of the soft skills, such as teamwork and presenting skills will also be beneficial.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was a fun and enjoyable place to work, helped mainly by the employees being friendly and sociable. We spend lunchtimes socialising and playing games to relax from work which made it very easy to chill out. The lack of politics in the workplace generated a really enjoyable atmosphere.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was fairly well organised. We went to an intern week in London which was moderately organised, but otherwise, everything was well communicated and the internship was excellently setup. The managers had organised enough work for the interns and always appeared to know the answers to any organisational questions that I had.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Several lunchtime talks were arranged, to improve our understanding of the work that we were doing. Unfortunately several of these were cancelled. A personal training and development plan was generated by my manager which enabled me to focus on specific areas to develop. We also spent time in London for personal training and development.

  • Sports and Social Club

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The company seemed an excellent place to work and all the staff appeared to enjoy working there. I was given the opportunity to attend a second interview during the final week of my internship. I enjoyed the interview day and was subsequently offered a graduate role within the same office.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • As we were working in one of the smaller offices (Coventry), there were only three interns. I was also living with friends from university as I attend Warwick University. So although I had a good social scene during the internship there wasn't loads of social events. The entire office did go for lunch on several occasions and we went for an evening meal one week.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in Coventry was pretty cheap. As I previously mentioned I was living in my student accommodation so I didn't have to pay any additional rent which reduced the cost of living. I believe the company would have provided subsidised accommodation if I hadn't already sorted out my housing.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There's not loads of good nightlife in Coventry.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was plenty of outside of work activities. I went climbing one evening with a colleague with was great fun. In general, the company encourages and supports any kind of activity that you want to get involved in. We went for a 'morale' meal one evening which was funded by the company, this was a great evening where I got to socialise with my colleagues.
