    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my internship very much. It was well planned, with cohort-wide networking sessions and team building activities. We were given much exposure across the firm through weekly lunhc-and-learn sessions where we would learn about other product and sector teams. However, given that work was slightly slow-quite unavoidable as it is summer- it was not as much exposure as I would have liked. Nevetheless, thoroughly enjoyable, great experience!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The culture at HSBC is incredibly collegiate. Everyone is very helpful and approachable. People here seem care abou the interns and are invested that the interns suceeed. Many team members are committed to ensuring that the interns learn as much as they can. Amongst the interns, there is hardly any issues as everyone is genuinely quite pleasant.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager was very approachable and we often organised feedback sessions once every two weeks or so. HR also organised two chats with the interns to gain some feedback from how we were doing and also to provide us with some comments on areas we had to improve. In general, we were given more guidance from associates and analysts in daily tasks.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • While some days I did not have much work from my team, I would be kept busy by my intern project. Typically, I would work from 9am to 11pm and I came back to the office in the last few weekends to work on my intern project.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • We were mostly responsible for our own work and assignments.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think this internship has definitely imparted valuable skills and given me a good idea of how the industry works. Apart from that, I have gained a strong insight to how the firm operates, as well as what is expected from me from the profession. While I think I have much more to learn, thsi internship has definitely been a good headstart

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a bit slow in the middle of summer, but busy generally.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was well organised, except that the induction process was a bit lengthy! one week was spent undergoing basic finance training while the second week was spent undergoing systems training.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm has invested much in the interns through lunch and learn sessions and employees taking the time to teach us skills etc.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Car

  • 4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Everyone got along quite well and interns organised several night outs

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • In general, London can be expensive especially when you're constantly eating out. However, because I worked late often, I was given a dinner allowance by HSBC.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There was a grass patch beside canary wharf that was quite lively in the evenings and a great place to hang out for a pint

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Some interns did join the gym. However, I felt that due to my long working hours, I did not really have the luxury of time to really involve myself in activities outside work, especially on weekdays. Weekends should generally be alright depending on your work load though
