Overview
This four day scheme provided an oversight into both the global banking and markets sectors of the bank. Within global banking, insight panels spoke about their roles as investment bankers and corporate and institutional bankers. On the markets day, we heard from both the trading and sales team and the securities services. We then picked our respective area of choice and shadowed them on the final day.
Skills
Yes - I previously knew little about the global banking and markets sector, however leaving I feel like I have a comprehensive overview. I feel confident in my choice that corporate and institutional banking is the right area for me, and was able to make this decision fully informed and confirmed through shadowing this role.
Business Insight
It was clearly explained the various sectors of the bank and I felt that, although not all sectors interested me, I was able to identify which did and pursue that path.
Culture
Everyone was very inclusive and welcoming. There was a diverse range of people which contributed to the supportive and collaborative environment.
Your Impressions
After finding the sector that I felt suited me, I thouroughly enjoyed the insight. Before this, I had felt slightly disheartened that banking wasn’t for me.
Yes
Be yourself and let your personality show. Though HSBC is a bank, the employees are very sociable and so it is key to interact and get on with your colleagues.
