    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really valuable insights into different areas of the business and work done. Felt well structured and balanced, doing real work from the start.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Acted as part of various audit teams and within the office. Most colleagues were happy to give work to interns with the view it would be done well. Kept in the loop throughout on important events or jobs,

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a very energetic manager who was always eager to make sure I was busy and happy. The whole structure or the internship was very supportive, including away day training sessions.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • For the majority of the time I was very busy, or quickly given work if I asked for more. Some days involved travelling to client sites and working there all day, some days involved being the office helper and lending a hand to many different jobs.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was in charge of my own time and small projects, but most of the responsibility was retained by other colleagues. There are necessities for this in a service line based on being thorough, trustworthy and knowledgeable, but more responsibility could have been handed to me I feel.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I had a brilliant 2 day presentation skills workshop at Grant Thornton's training facility near High Wycombe. This taught me some brilliant skills which I will retain and use in the future. I also became more comfortable in a client facing role.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Friendly people in a nice office. Because auditors are often out of the office, it lacks *some* of the buzz of an office where everyone sits together every day, but still always come in to smiling faces every day.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • From day one, brilliant. I've had intern getherings in london, lunches with various people, client visits, training, away days, charity events... The list goes on! Can't fault the organisation or structure of this internship.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested lots of time, money and people into my develoment. As mentioned in a previous comment, we had a two day trip to their training facility in the countryside. Also never felt pressured to know things up front, and people took time to explain things properly.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Stability, solid career development and a great variety of work to be had. It's been a real insight into not only audit but the business world. Future employment with GT is definitely something worth considering.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There's been opportunities for drinks, socials, even a national football tournament. Met other interns from other offices a few times, pretty good balance considering it was only 6 weeks.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Fairly average outside of London, Leicester has quite a few options open for food, drink and social locations.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife in Leicester isn't amazing, although there is scope for a good night out.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were a few activities run by Grant Thornton, with an ethos that if you want to arrange something, suggestions are welcome!
