The Role
I enjoyed the job as the challenges given to me outweighed the mundane day to day tasks. I never had nothing to do and was rarely bored. The culture in the organisation and the people I worked with also made each day a pleasure.
The EnglandNet team are very welcomming and there are various team outings to the pub for lunch when there is a birthday or someone is leaving. The team would offer support where they could and credit is given where it is due.
My manager's would keep up to date with how I was getting on and what work was in progress or whether I needed any help. I was also offered various different IT based training courses within the organisation. There is a Fortnightly team meeting and also an ad hoc one to one meeting with my managaer.
Sometimes I would be very busy but most of the time my work was given to me in a smooth continuous flow. My manager was keen to not bombard me with tasks and equally would ensure that I was not bored with the work load. I would very very rarely have nothing to do. The work is spread evenly across the team members.
I was given responsibility very early on to deal with key organisations (Best Western, Camping and Caravanning Club etc.). The role does not necessarily have a substantial amount of responsibility on offer. Where responsibility was possible it would be offered to me in order to improve my personal development, once I had gained the necessary skills to deal with the situation.
I would use the real business examples of marketing approaches and campaigns that I have come across throughout the placement in my final year. I will be able to use the computer skills from now and throughout my career. The experience has taught me many different skills and above everything else has helped me to apply myself to a role within a business environment. Some aspects I would not use again as this applies directly to the role and organisation itself - but the principles woud remain the same.
The Company
It is not the most exciting place to work but that is reflected by the job itself - Working in information management requires attention to detail so having too much fun would be a distraction. The office has its moments and everyone is friendly and easy going.
I got a tour at the beginning and met key people in the organisation in the first week. I was given on the job training which suited the role.
I was able to go onto Excel, Word and Photoshop training courses to improve my computer skills to help with my future career and university studies. The team was willing to explain issues to me even though I was not directly dealing with them and wanted to know for my own personal development.

I would consider going back to VisitBritain but within a different team so that I would expand my working knowledge. I don't think I would like to go back into the same role as I don't think there would be enough challenges left once I had finished the year.
The Culture
There were only a couple of other students but we did arrange to meet up for lunch on a regular basis. There was also an arranged studnet lunch once a month.
It is expensive to live in London! Travel costs were not too bad. Socialising in Hammersmith was quite expensive.
The nightlife had some bars and some nice pubs along the Thames but not really any nightclubs. You would have to travel up to central London for a good club.
Some free tickets offered to events. A christmas party and a Summer do! Some sports teams and a free Simming Pool, Gym and Sauna.
