    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship, and ended each day with a smile! The people I met were all extremely friendly and happy to help me with any questions I may have had. I was given responsibility and important work to be performed however there was always someone to support me to ensure the work I was carrying out was correct. I also had a lovely time with the interns, and had opportunities to relax together.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues treated me like an Associate, so they would give me important work to carry out as opposed to the knock off work which could have been given to me to fill my time up. I felt I was a vital part to the audit and my colleagues respected me. They also understood I was an intern so explained exactly what I needed to do.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • On arrival I was allocated a Buddy (to ask all the little questions to), a People Manager (who was there to help me should I request something) and on each client I had an in-charge to oversee my work and look after me whilst on the client. However in my experience, every member of the team I was on was willing to answer my questions and help me out! I could always get my questions answered and felt supported.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was normally given work in the morning to do independently. So It was up to me to complete it in a timely manner however also gave me the chance to organise meetings with managers/partners, respond to emails and get involved with the intern project. As an intern there are many extra things (the intern project, online learning sessions, shadowing etc.) available so there was never a moment when I had nothing to do! I was not overloaded with work though.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given tasks Associates would otherwise do, so it actually played a part in the audit.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Skills such as networking are valuable forever! I also developed my confidence, as I had to learn to speak out when in a team with partners. This will assist me in the future whatever I do. I developed my Excel skills and also learnt how to email professionally!

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Great balance of work and fun. It was possible to focus, however I found that when going to grab a coffee anyone in the coffee area was willing to talk. Everyone smiled and said hi! It was extremely friendly, and there was no sense of heirachy.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Although there was not much information given out before the internship, the first week is training and it is during this week when you learn everything about what is going to happen. Everything flowed smoothly and I always knew what I was doing/who to talk to if any problems arised.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The first week is all training. The first three days were a residential trip where we stayed with all interns from around the UK. This was a great chance to meet interns from different offices and build up a network! You trained with others similar to you so felt very comfortable. The next two days were training near the offices. This gave a chance to bond with the interns in the same office. The tutors were all very friendly and I was able to email them questions throughout the whole internship.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I've learnt about the work culture, which is friendly and welcomming, and I also find the work performed interesting. Lots of people worry about the hours however speaking to those in the firm I have learnt the balance between days when work hours and long but days when work hours are relaxed.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were not any socials planned by PwC themselves however many interns were willing to go out for drinks after work. We had a facebook group so it was fairly easy for someone to post and message and see who was free.
