    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Enjoyable experience overall, however a number of occasions felt I wasn't taken seriously with some improvements suggested.

    2/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Being quite a quiet person I found it difficult to engage with colleagues, and there were some circumstances where I didn't feel like all colleagues took me seriously or knew what I did. At the end though I found that most colleagues valued me more - due to a project of welcoming new placement students.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Not enough, could have benefited from more training and responsibility felt that manager could have made more effort to spend time with me as they were busy on a daily basis

    2/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This varied from day to day. Early days had very little to do but throughout the year workload increased keeping me occupied on most days. However still found that there wasn't enough work to do throughout the working week.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Not enough, felt as if I could have been responsible for more. Responsibility given was fairly insignificant and I didn't feel like I was able to make a big enough impact for the company.

    1/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Learnt plenty of new skills, in particular SAP and excel setting me up well for the future.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Average, most were busy so little general chat and finding out about colleagues.

    2/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Badly, good training scheme however not enough support throughout the year from head office and program manager. Little support for manager as I was first placement student and my manager didn't really know what tasks or responsibility to give me. Poorly organised for arrival too - no computer/laptop on first day and spent first day in meetings all day.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Well, 10 training events throughout the year focusing on a number of key skills which I have been able to develop throughout the year.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • No job offers at the end of the year - told that too busy in welcoming the new placement students so wont find out until later this year. Was also told if I want a job I have to keep regular contact with the relevant people.

    1/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Fellow placement students were very social as were some of the graduates, however the majority of colleagues were reluctant to socialise throughout the year.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Approx £400/month - on the more expensive range of the area but great house and no trouble.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Poor - Newport isn't the best. Luckily Cardiff was only 20 min drive

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Plenty of things to do around Newport and Cardiff

    5/5
