    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed it - Mostly I was kept very busy and felt like a part of the team. I was given a lot of responsibility and was very welcomes by my department. My people manager gave me a lot of support and was very approachable.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued. They didn't make me feel as if I was getting in the way and they gave me work to do for them when they had a lot on their own plate - I felt useful to them.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a lot of support by my people manager 90% of the time. I had an awkward spot when he went away for 3 days but apart from that everything was great. In the grand scheme of things 3 days within a 6 week placement isn't bad.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Varied from day to day - I had some extremely busy days where I was struggling to squeeze all my work in but then I had other days where I was twiddling my thumbs.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility - taking into account my current ability. I was able to meet clients and work out on sites with my team.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Working a 9-5 job has 'woken me up' from university - a reality check. I feel like this time round when I go back to university I will appreciate my time more and spend more time in the day working - being used to early mornings and long days, something university rarely is.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really friendly, warm and welcome atmosphere. Not intimidating - everyone wants to meet and greet you. Always being offered cups of tea!

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Extremely well organised - I knew what I was doing for the whoe 6 weeks on my first day. My timetable was fully complete within my first week and I was able to access it and see what I should be expecting 3 weeks away!

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt like the company was hugely invested in their interns. A lot of effort was put in to make sure we were happy and taking something from the experience. You really are treated like a perspective employee - not a child they have to put up with but someone they want to impress into taking a job with them. They invested a lot of time and money into us.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If I was to be offered a job by Grant Thornton at the end of my 6 weeks with them I wouldn't hesitate to take it. Fantastic company that are all about their workers as well as their clients.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We had a social arranged in London for us upon first starting. I only had one other intern in the office with me - but we were encouraged to be social. We attended a Summer Ball - a great chance to meet new people.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Pretty high - apart from London I think Bristol is one of the most expensive places to be.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Bristol nightlife is great - thats a well known fact already! Plenty of things going on all the time! Work place right near the center also - shopping on your lunch break - easy!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We were invited to the firms annual Summer Ball and whenever there was a lunch drink or outing we were invited along!

    4/5
