About You
My experience was incredible even though it was only for 4 weeks I felt like I achieved and experienced so much in such short space of time. To waking up at 5am and being all sweat makes it totally worth it especially when you see baby hatchlings.
As there was only 4-6 people within our group everyone was out doing jobs whether it was washing dishes for dinner, waking along the beach looking for hatchling tracks or doing excavations. Everyone was involved, not a dull moment.
The camp leader gave me all the information I needed and if I had any questions or problems she was easily approachable.
I've just graduated in Applied Bioscience and Zoology and have been accepted into a Master course this Sept. This opportunity has pushed me and increased my knowledge of conservation. It has enabled me to talk to employers and academic lecturers about my experience and put it on my CV.
The Company
Throughout most of my time on camp we all knew what we were meant to be doing and what time we had to be ready and out in the morning. Plans and duties were always discussed the night before so everyone new what was happening.
Friendly, helpful and relaxed. Everyone was so easy-going, we all had similar interests like travelling and working with animals etc. It was great to meet people from all over the world and make life long friendships. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is thinking about doing something like this.
To be honest I was made aware of full time roles etc but I did apply to become an ambassador for frontier so I could tell others about my experience and how amazing and educational it is. If it was not for my camp leader and friends that have volunteered with frontier before I would not of known about becoming an ambassador.
I'm not too sure about this one, working with frontier allowed me to meet people from all over Britain mostly however having another organisation next to us 'Archelon' allowed me to meet and socialise with people from Europe and America.
Working with the Sea turtles in Greece definitely helped me to think about what I want to in the future and has encouraged me to apply for my masters this year. It has given me hands on experience in the field which not many people can say that they have had the opportunity to do.
Everything Else
I was not paid or reimbursed expenses but I didn't mind I went for the experience, travelling and meeting new people.
There were definitely opportunities for networking and meeting people which could in relation help gain employment.
meeting new people was easy out there especially from july-sept which is the time where we had the most people. We were able to go to the waterfalls and get some amazing pictures and have a laugh together.
no not really.
100% it was the best thing I have done. Volunteering is a great way to get experience within conservation especially, meet new people, gain experience with different cultures and experience new things. I think you have to be easy-going and go into with an open mind especially when camping on near the beach with minimal hot water and basic food but the company and advantages are endless.
